E91 320d Instrument Panel question...
I have discovered a differance in the instrumentpanels of different E91 320d modells, all produced as 2007 models (after sept. 06 and before sept. 07)
See the attached pictures. As you can see, the panel in the middle are different. These are both pictures from a 2007 320d, why the difference? Does anybody know?? I know that the the type with the "split", is standard for all 6-cylinder engines, e.g 325d. I just can't understand why there's a difference in different 320d models. The reason for my curiosity is that I hope that my E92 320d comes with the "split" version, but all photos I found of the instrument panel for E92 320d has the "single" version ...

I have the panel like the one in the 2nd pics with the split on my 07 e90 320d.
I knew there were two different panel, but I've never notised the difference in the lower part (split vs. no split), just the difference in the upper part with the indicator arrows.

You have an E90 320d, I have been looking at a lot of interior pictures and have never seen a E90 320d with a panel like the one on the 1st pic, only with one like that in the 2nd pic. I like the one in the 1st pic better, it gives more information with at better font and look. This is the standard panel for all E9x models with 6 cylinder engines, and I thought that only 6 cylinder engines got this panel. Therefore I got rather stunned when I saw that some, and not all, E91 320d's has the panel like the one in the 1st pic. I have gone through some adds on finn.no now, and I see that all the E91 320d's that has the panel I want (1st pic) has the option "5AC Fjernlysassistent" stated in the specification list, while the ones that has the panel in the 2nd pic don't have option 5AC listed. Remmib; do you have option 5AC on your car? I ordered nearly every option for my 320d, so if it's based on an option, I am just crossing my fingers that I have the right option to get the panel in the 1st pic

The 2nd one also seems to be lacking the little white cruise control blob that swings around the outside of the speedometer whenever activated. So maybe cruise control is the key?
I have cruise control and my display looks like the one in the first picture.

But, when I have looked through ads at a online market place here in Norway, I see that all the 320d's with the type in the 1st picture has the 5AC option, and all the 320d's with the type in the 2nd picture don't have the 5AC option listed. I have actualle found two 318d's with the 1st type, and they also had the 5AC option. So, I'm kind of hoping that 5AC is the option that gives the 1st type, because I have ordered 5AC on my car

Just an observation.
The first one looks like suited for active cruise control (6 cyl. engines _only_ afaik) - take a look at the (turned off) car and distance icons in the middle. In my car -1mo old 320d - i have basic cruise control and the second screen. |

But, I have seen pictures of several 320d's, and even 318d's, with the one in the 1st pic. So, it can't be just the active cruise control that decides this. The likeness I have found on the 320d's and 318d's that has the one in the 1st pic, is that all the cars were listed with the 5AC option. Do you have option 5AC in your car?

I would guess (and this is based on how past cars have been configured) that it may have to do with the level of onboard computer that is in the car.
For example, the level of computer impacted the cluster display on the E39 5er. With the high version you got text messages in the center; with the low version, you got much less functionality and pictographs (say for ,,door open``) Not sure though. Interesting question.

Looking on bmw.de at the 3er catalog, the 3er with base computer has the display on the right while an image of a car with the high version of the computer has the cluster on the left.
This does not necessarily mean this is the answer but it is perhaps a clue.

I suspect that there are two variants of the low version. For example, all U.S. cars come with the cluster on the first picture. But not all U.S. cars have iDrive and a CCC (high version of computer).

Is the car with the first panel equipped with the active cruise control? If you look at the first panel, you can see the signal for the cruise control..
btw. I can also approve the suggestion from Remmib.. i have a picture from 318i E91 which is equipped with the second panel and a picture of a 330i E90, which has the first panel. So it should depend on 4- and 6 cylinder and the choosen extra equipment.

The symbol for ACC does not mean the car has ACC - my E90 has the symbol but just the ordinary cruise control. The more I think about it, the more I tend to agree it could be 4- or 4-cylinder dependent. Prosit Neujahr!

schön von dir wieder etwas zu lesen Wünsche dir einen guten Start in 2008. Feier schön rein! Prost Neujahr und einen guten Drift in 2008 Here are two pictures, which i described: This is the instrument panel of the 318i E91 with the 4-cylinder engine. It has the same partition of the second pictrue shown above. And the second picture of the 330i E90 with the 6-cylinder. btw. I just remembered that the 330i wasnt equipped with the ACC, so you are definatly right!
