H&R 50474-6 for F80 M3 - Lots of pics.

Hey guys,

Just got the new H&R Sports for the F80 installed on my car. They're a great solution - I usually poo-poo springs but at least for a temporary solution, they're working great. I tried springs on my E90 and my E93 and they both came out within a few days. Even the Dinan suspension on my E90 was too bouncy for me, and I removed it as well (along with being unhappy with the drop). I had H&R coilovers, Bilstein PSS10, Ohlins, KW V3, KW clubsports, JRZ RS Pro on my various E9x with various top hats, etc. Also, Dinan springs and H&Rs. Moton Clubsport 2 ways with external reservoirs were the final setup on my E46 M3, and I instruct with a few of the track clubs around here, so have at least an idea of what I'm talking about with suspension bits.

This is the first time a BMW of mine has gotten springs and I haven't wanted to rip them out immediately. The passive dampers on my car seem very well tuned for the additional spring rate and car rides pretty much like stock (a bit harsher, but most importantly, not bouncy or uncontrolled.) There is a tiny additional wobble on turn in, and the car does oversteer under power a bit more, but that's expected with a spring only solution. I wouldn't be faster at the track with these springs (likely a bit faster on sweepers, giving up some speed in low speed turns and over bumpy sections) but I also wouldn't be afraid to take the car to the track with them.

The car looks great - the H&Rs for the f80 M3 give a much more even drop than the M4 springs do. The F80 is much lower in the rear from a wheel gap perspective than the F82, so you definitely want the right springs for your car. (Dunno what is going to be for the F83 - probably another set altogether). Wife approved - she didn't even really notice except that I'm creeping over speedbumps, etc a bit more.

As you'll see in the photos, I have the BMW Performance splitters and front lip, and rear diffuser/rear spoiler. No clearance problems - have only lightly scraped the front lip without doing anything to do. I was surprised, I expected to scrape more but the car seems fine. I am used to lowered cars and do take driveways carefully and avoid potholes, etc.

No rubbing at all with my 12.5mm spacers all around either on the stock 19" wheels/tires.

Anyway, for those of you who are thinking about lowering the car but don't want the ricer bounce, these are a good solution, surprisingly. The car does great with them and looks way better without the stick your head into the wheel well wheel gap.

Nice! Drop looks much better than the m4 specific springs (on m3). Glad to hear it isn't bouncy w/ passive suspension.

This looks awesome. Sounds like a great solution for me. I always felt my kw v3 were over kill for driving to fresh market.

No one knows precisely, but likely your suspension will wear faster. That might mean you need new dampers at 100k miles instead of 150k miles. That might mean 30k instead of 40k. Lots of factors. Might not measurably wear them at all.

Thanks for your review. Glad to know they don't kill the handling dynamics ... Going to go ahead and order a set. Did you install them yourself? Just wondering because I've done my own suspension work before but wondering about torque specs, etc.

I didn't this time. I have done it on the rear of an e90 and it's very similar in concept, and the control arms are a pain in the butt to line up in the driveway on jack stands. The fronts are harder to get to, but not horrible.

Thanks for your pictures and reviews!!

I am still not too sure what spring to use for temp solution until the KWs come out with some "affordable" solution that doesnt cost $5000....

I feel like your set is perfect but I am afraid it may be too low for my country. (I live in Taiwan).

Anyone or do you recommend any other H&R spring for the M3? I have read from some sponsored post that the F32 Sports springs are good options? Anyone pleas enlighten me.

Thanks.

Cars look great. If i were still in the US, I'd jump on it!!!!!

Looks great man, but the rear is still a touch too low. Big improvement over the M4 springs either way.

I did, but only slightly. Very easy, there is an allen adjustment for height on the LEDs on the top of the headlight.
