Another steering wheel lock problem

Had the problem of the orange warning light coming up and had to play with the key fob/steering wheel to get the car started. then I got the red "steering lock failure" light and went to the dealer.

He updated to the latest version of software. Got the car back the next day it worked fine for ~ 1 month but then the steering lock failure light came up again.

Back to dealer but they did not have the part in stock. They request
authorization to BMW to perform the job but today I got a call to bring
the car back in for more checks.
Basically what the dealer told me is that they did not the get the approval
frokm BMW yet but they were asked to run some more tests ...

What is this about? My model is a 325xi built Sept 05,

Steering Wheel Lock

Don't accept no for an answer from your dealer. I had exactly the same problem on my UK E91 320D. New software fitted---but it only worked for a few days before the previous problem re-surfaced. Back to the dealer who immediately said that they would fit a new steering column assembly. There have been absolutelty no problems since. Suggest to your dealer that you think it could be a safety problem and if the steering were to inadvertantly lock or otherwise malfunction and an accident resulted then you would be holding them responsible. Best of luck
