DIY Request: Blackvue Dash Camera

Hello was curious if there was anyone thats installed one of these? Particularly to a dedicated power supply? I've heard that the BMW electric system is extremely sensitive. Others have mentioned that a 2nd battery is another option, but have no idea how this is done.

I installed my mini 0803 by tapping power from the mirror along with my radar detector.

Here is a sample video, Watch it in HD (Youtube degrades the video, it looks even better on my computer)

Also caught the tech at my BMW dealership joy riding my car during my 1200 mile service.

No...... You need a 12v to 5v micro USB adapter which I hid under the rear view mirror plastic.

I figured that was likely the case.

You're not having any issues with heat? I see a lot of reviews complaining about those cameras crapping out in the heat.

I have a 0801 in my daily and a 0803 in my M4. No issues what so ever. Even if it does crap out, a replacement 0801 is $50 and a 0803 is $80. Won't break the bank.

What was the dealer's response to the "test drive"?

Are you sure you're in the right place? This is the internet. At the very least you should be demanding a new car.

Yesterday I installed my BlackVue with Power Magic Pro using the fuse box in the trunk. However it seems that the dashcam power is turned off after I leave the car off around 20 minutes... Maybe I connected to a wrong tab.. Does anyone have a suggestion what fuse tabs should I connect the wires of the Power Magic Pro to? (+ACC and +BATT)

Steven, you're a better man than I am - just watching it made me livid but then again I am pretty anal when it comes to my things. Was this at Advantage? Seems like it from the video. I was going to be giving them my car to service but this is exactly why I'm going to be there to keep tabs on their ass.

Also, I think what makes this even dumber is that this idiot had to know the camera was running right? Why the hell would do you drive like that in someone else's car.

The car is sensitive to electrical "drains" so if you're tapping into constant power as opposed to switched power there may be a problem but otherwise you are fine.

Can you comment further on the sensitivity of the electrical drains. I am curious what you have learned.

Thanks

Thanks
Basically, if the car see's a drain that isn't supposed to be there from a constant power source (OBD-II Connector, Charger, Radar Detector, etc.) it will throw a "High Battery Drain When Stopped" message and alert you when you start the car. As long as it is on a switched power source, you don't have the problem.

I was trying to keep the dash cam running while the car is parked. To prevent battery drain completely, I tried to use the Power Magic Pro that shuts off the dash cam power when the voltage is lower than a threshold. It has three cables: one for the ground, one for the constant power, another for the switched power. My question was what the constant power is in the fuse box tab. It seems that I currently connected both to switched power.

Thanks for explanation, I don't see the "High Battery Drain When Stopped" alert, so it seems I'm just connect to a switched power.

I found this video that describes hardwire in F30.. Maybe I'll try again with some other fuse tabs..

Dash video

Can police confiscate the video if you're pulled over? That's what makes me nervous.

they can do anything they want. As to whether it would hold up in court, most likely not. Illegal search and seizure, depending on the circumstances.
