How much are you willing to pay in the US for the BASE M3 @ MSRP?

Above what base price (MSRP) will you NOT buy the new M3 in the US? Let's stick to the coupe pricing on this one. Assume the sedan will be slightly less...Keep in mind the base car doesn't have leather.

Your question is incomplete....

Base MRSP?
MRSP with corresponding options?
Final price?

It says base price in the initial post and the poll quetion (but I guess not on the heading...I'll change that and add MSRP. Thanks.)

Base price almost determines the final price (we pretty much know what the options will cost within a few hundred dollars except for DCT). I think it is better to stick to that rather than the final price since it is the only common variable.

I voted base above $65K but it's really hard to say.... price really isn't the limiting factor for me, and there is no other car in the price range that I'm considering.... BUT every $1000 more just makes it a little harder to open my wallet. I may still buy it even if it is outrageously expensive, but it will no longer be a "gotta have it now" decision, since I think the higher the price, the fewer the buyers, and the more we'll see on dealer lots... thus, bigger discounts.....

What i'm getting at is that after the initial "M3 or nothing" demand is met, the market will decide the price -- just like with the M5. If the base price comes out over $62K, I'm going to be very cautious.....

Any base price above $65k would probably get me looking in other directions. The problem is that there are no other cars I would consider right now. The only other car is the GT3, and that is a substantial increase over the M3 and no sunroof delete option here.

I selected 70K but that is the MAXIMUM amount I'd be willing to pay for a fully loaded M3 with DCT - even as I write that and read it that number seems way too high, by about 10K.

+1. If the base is in the mid 60s, it would make a lot of sense to wait until the 2009 model year and pick it up at a significant discount. I just don't see how they can sell 50000 of these cars at that price.

68K to 70K max

I will only pay 68 to 70K maximum with all options included. more than that i will go for the 650i even though it is not in the same catagory. If the M3 reaches 80K with full options including DCT then it makes no sense not to consider the M5. You don't have to add any options to the M5, it comes with almost everything included in the base price (about 83k).

You can get a M5 for significantly less than MSRP right now if that's the car you really want--probably in the mid to low 70s.

Thanks Lucid, if this is the case then there are really no incentives for me to wait that long for the M3. I am # 13 on my dealer's list and I will not buy manual gear which means i might have to wait even longer. Above 70K is expensive for me but the M5 is a great car and specially if there is no wait then i am willing to dig deep into my pocket. M5 comes with SMG standard and i don't have to add anything to the basic model. However, adding options to the M3 will most likelly take it well into the 70s. I really did not know i can get any M5 under 83-85K if not more.
Are you referring to a new or used M5 in that price range? Thanks again Lucid

Invoice on the 2008 M5 is 76k, MSRP is 83k. I bet you can get pretty close to invoice, and if you are willing to buy a new 2007 model that has been sitting around for a while, you can probably do even better. A local dealership has a black M5 parked in the showroom. It's been there for over a year. I bet they'd be happy to see it go. I've "heard" of people getting 5-7k under MSRP on the M5. But there is a 3k gas guzzler tax on top of that, so the total without sales tax might be closer to 80k. Ask around a M5 forum to confirm this. It's a great car. It just seems to be overpriced and it's not selling well. Good luck.

I have said it before and I will say it again. My estimate is 57K... This would put it in the realm of the RS4 and expected price of the C63 AMG considering the new M doesnt come with 19" or Leather stand, bringing the price up to 60K. With the aggresive planned sales volume, a stripped M3 costing 60K with only Leather and 19"s is plausible if not down right likely.

Dealers don't have pricing yet so they will just be guessing.

Two people picked up to $80k base for this car? That is insane! I love this car but I would never pay that much.
