Spotify Support for ConnectedDrive / BMW Apps

As many of you know Spotify doesn't yet support ConnectedDrive / BMW Apps. You can still stream via bluetooth but it's buggy at best. Spotify has an "ideas" page and whichever ideas have the most support get implemented first. Lets pass this link around and get this idea as many "kudos" as possible. I'd love to have native Spotify support in iDrive.

This is embarrassing for BMW and Spotify. To step into a VW and find the integration working a 100 times better is pathetic. BMW: Open upp your API for apps to developer and get that "App Store" up and running. This is ridiculous for a car of MY 2015.

This probably due to some commercial negotiations in the background between Spotify and BMW.

After all it would be very easy for Spotify to sort the app out so that we could have the album art etc on the screen but they are not doing it, and I can only think that its due to on-going or failing negotiations between the two companies...

I've found that you can only get it to work by selecting your phone under media in idrive. Once its playing something from your music app you can then select Spotify with your phone and select a song to play. This is where the first bug comes in, it starts to play and then immediately pauses. When you click play on your phone again it seems to start working. Here comes bug number two, the info and album art for first song you pick show up on idrive, but it never changes after that. Also, the only control you have via idrive is next an previous track but previous does not always work.

Having Spotify integrated like pandora is what I'm looking for. Being able to select and control Spotify from idrive would be huge. I honestly don't think this is negotiation issue, I think Spotify just hasn't implemented the functionality yet but its hard to say without more insight.

I think hitting previous once will go back to start of the current song, and if you double tap previous twice it'll go back to the previous song.

Sometimes it behaves that way (the way it should), but sometimes previous goes to the next track. It basically gets stuck where it doesn't matter if you hit next or previous it's just going to the next track unless you pick up the phone and control it that way.

In an $80K (average) car, it is ridiculous how poorly Spotify performs. Yes, I can make it work, but the delays and erroneous display is just pathetic in what is a luxury vehicle launched in 2014.

FWIW, if you google this issue, there are tons of people reporting these sort of issues with spotify with iOS and and Android and across multiple vehicle makes and models.

Not sure who is to blame but spotify seems to be the common denominator...and this is coming from a loyal Spotify customer, I do wish it worked better..

I've been a Spotify user/subscriber since beta. Best $10 I spend a month. Disappointed to hear that the interface is screwy. I wouldn't have expected this.

Don't get me wrong, I love Spotify. The problem isn't that the app has interface issues or that it doesn't work as designed. The problem is that Spotify doesn't yet support BMW ConnectedDrive. The way we're using it now is essentially a work-around.

My intent for this thread wasn't to just complain, my hope was for everyone to go to the link and show as much support as possible by giving the idea kudos on Spotify's site. The more we do this, the sooner Spotify will support ConnectedDrive.

I was really hoping there would be more Spotify users on here. The idea has only gotten a few more kudos since this. Come on guys, lets get this some visibility!

The connected apps are crap. So problematic, don't do what they advertise. All other makes are way further ahead of the integration curve. Ford, Hyundai, GM and Audi to name a few.

Spotify 2.0 Now works with BMW connected drive

The latest release of the Spotify app (version 2.0) now works with full app control via the iDrive and screen.

BMW havn't released it as a plug in for the BMW connected drive app (I guess it will follow soon) but if you install the iPhone into the car cradle, start the Soptify app on the phone, you will be able to access the Spotify vie the media or connected drive options on the iDrive.

Enjoy.

About time. You'd figure an $80K car should be able to play a $0.99 song...

Just wanted to commented that I noticed this working this morning when it wasn't as of last Friday.

The one downside is that there does not appear to be anyway to search for songs. Also, if you close the application, the music will stop playing.
