I bet that "before" picture is from a gasser. $1294 doesnt seem that bad though. Steep for a 50k mile service (or 30-40k according to them), but not the end of the world. It only cost a couple dollars to not ever need that service again though...

I haven't tried it; I just figured it would be the same 2010 part number.
I had BT before and the iPod integration package. Had do use the special cable with the old radio. I'll see if it works with just the usb cable. One seriously annoying thing that accompanied the radio change was that I had set the gong to the quietest setting on my old radio. Somehow, the new radio remembered the setting of -5; but reset the actual volume to the default setting of 0. In other words, while the numbers on the radio go from -5 to +5 for the gong volume; the actual gong sound goes from 0 to +10. Anybody know anyone near Memphis that can code the gong off? |

I'll probably start shopping this out when my car hits 50k miles... Currently at 30k. Hopefully by then BMW will step up and include carbon blasting in the maintenance plan.

looks like it should be covered under routine maintenance then! part of our 4 year 50k mile maintenance since it's every 30-40k
Have you guys looked at cpo warranty for new diesels? They explicitly don't cover emissions equipment like SCR and DPF...the 2 things that are most prone to failure. Then again, 60k miles and i haven't had any "carbon" issues. I'm sure I have something but it's not terrible. Gonna wait as long as I can before addressing it. |

My 2011 335d was a dealer's "Executive" car with just over 5k miles when I bought it in early 2012. Since then I have kept meticulous data on fuel/miles including correction for odometer error. With just over 47k miles its overall average mpg is 37+. On the last 2k mile trip it averaged over 40 mpg. On the last leg of this trip the SES light came on and I dreaded the much discussed carbon build up and injector problems but was glad it came on within the warranty period.
The code indicated a bad injector and the dealer had one expedited over night. The next day I was told that while the injector was being installed the service technician thought he should also check for the carbon problem. Much to my relief the tech did not find significant carbon and was himself surprised at how little there was. I was also impressed with how knowledgeable and genuinely interested the tech was with diesels so I trust his judgement. Having said that I'm hoping my experience might provide some clues as to why other cars have, or have not had, the carbon issue. First, my driving is largely long trips, few under 20 miles with the average being something well beyond 100. I try to "go with the flow" which usually equates to 5 mph over and beyond. I generally use hypermiling driving techniques but don't hesitated to enjoy the torque when appropriate. What might be noteworthy is that the EGR valve update and DDE reprogramming was applied early on which I'm hoping prevented, and will continue to prevent, the carbon build-up. I am careful where I buy fuel and have used BP, Shell, Mobil, Sunoco, and lately premium fuels from Kwik Trip and Cenex. My hope is that if there are other injectors on their way out they die between now and when it hits 50k miles when the warranty ends. |

Mine happened around the lower part of 70k miles. I drive mostly highway, and accelerate quickly most stop lights. I had the carbon cleaning and 6 injectors done under my CPO warranty.

With 116k miles, I have the following:
Fehler: Reductant pressure build-up, plausibility Code: 4804 Fehler: Exhaust gas recirculation Code: 4B82 Fehler: Reductant pressure control, plausibility Code: 4D02 Fehler: Battery Power Management / Power-management-board network-layer / Power Management Randfix (Layer_PMBN) Code: 4A66 Fehler: Reductant pressure reduction, plausibility Code: 4809 Fehler: Reducing agent metering valve actuation Code: 4C7B Fehler: Reducing agent metering valve actuation Code: 4C7C Fehler: DeNOx system efficiency Code: 4D17 Not too worried about the reducing agent stuff, assuming it is the valve between the tanks, but the egr thing seems to indicate cbu, not sure about the NOx. |

I am not sure whether i had posted these before, but this is how my intake looks at 69000 KM. Not too bad according to the mileage in my opinion. 60/40 city/hwy driving. Lots of heavy foot
