DIY: CF Trim Surround M performance

1. Mask tape the top area surrounding the base of the trim.

2. Use a praying tool (plastic preferred), insert slowly at 12' Oclock position and pry upwards. The trim should pop up easily.

3. carefully turn the trim over, remove the red switch from the base of the trim, and then remove 2 screws holding the gear-selection button in place.

4. NOTE * BECAREFUL WITH THE 3 WIRES HINGED ON THE SMALL TAB (SEE PIC). CAREFULLY REMOVE THESE ONE BY ONE.

5. Reverse the steps with the new CF trim and you should be good to go.

should take no more than 10 mins. really easily.

I'm not sure if I understand your comment correctly, but are you asking if I have removed the new one with the same method? I would imagine so, there is nothing different from the trim.

yes you understood it correctly. I tried it and the new one is much tighter .. there is no gap between it and the other part of the car

Do you have a daylight picture? The alcantara parts looks interesting, but doesn't match anything else in the interior. Is that weird looking at all to you?

Cool nonetheless!

You are right, it doesn't match any part of the interior, but This doesn't really bother me. I love the Alcantara. I plan to do CF brake handles with Alcantara boot once it get's released (either OEM or after market). should complement the interior nicely.

Ofcourse, there is nothing wrong with leather all the way. I just like Carbon more.

I am not saying it looks bad, as it is subtle and hard to tell. Any chance you can take another pic installed? I imagine its pretty nice.

I wish we could get the alcantara headliner!!

For those that don't like the Alcantara I noticed that u can separate the black plastic from the chrome surround, and the same with the carbon from the alcantara since there screwed on maybe someone can mix and match

Does the carbon shift knob cover sit flush with the gear? The shift knob cover I bought (61 31 2 343 709) seem to be little bigger than the silver one that came with car.

Thanks

I'm not an Alcantara fan, I might look into this.

Installed mine yesterday, swapping the alcantara surround. I do like the look better especially since I don't have/like the CF parking brake because of the alcantara, but It doesn't fit [on the plate itself] as snug as the alcantara.

I like it without the alcantara surround! I will leave the shifter silver to match the iDrive knob.
