Tire Pressures - What have you found?
Well at 1200 miles I'm going to start playing with my tire pressures a bit. I'm starting to find the car not tracking quite as I'd like....feel like it's tramlining more than it did just 500 miles ago or so.
Tires are hitting 38-40 PSI once fully warmed up, so I'm going to try adjusting that a tad. I'm going to start by going down to 32 PSI cold as BMW specs, and adjust from there. I'm running 18s so I'm wondering what others are finding to be the right level of tire pressure OR what you have noticed as changing when you altered the pressures (even if it wasn't the right level).

We tried different tire pressures with the guidance of Karussell during our ED trip. We found under performance driving that measuring the tires when they are hot to 38 Degrees was ideal to handle both track and road. For max track performance Karussell found that 36 front 38 rear worked best for his car with 18s. This worked for both 18s and 19s.

Thanks Suave.
To be clear to the previous poster, I'm not having PULL - which would be in one direction. That was seen as radial pull. This is just modest wandering, which I would consider normal tramlining, except its become more pronounced recently. |

I understand what you are describing. My wife's previous vehicle was the new model 2006 Lexus 400h that came with electric steering. It had a habit of wanting to follow the crown of the road so it would pull to the right in the right lane and to the left in the left lane. It was pretty pronounced and annoying. Lexus came out with a software fix that helped but didn't eliminate it. I just find it odd that the problem seems to be limited to the 18's with the M3/4. I was on the highway recently and you could almost take your hands off the wheel, go to sleep and wake up at your destination. Sorry if this isn't relevant or useful to you. I hope adjusting the tire pressures solves it.

Yeah, I'm going to mention it to BMW at the 1200 mile service this wednesday so that if it becomes more problematic they have record of it before the 2,000 mile expiration on alignment/tire issues.

I am running 31 psi on my OEM 19"s as mentioned in the manual for speeds less than 100 mph. The ride is excellent and the car handles 'street' duties well. No major issues with tram lining either.

Get the front wheel alignment checked (toe). That is more likely to be the cause than tyre pressure
