I don't think this has been posted yet:
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/..._f_first_test/ Check out how it does against the M4. |

I just read the review, there isn't a single performance metric where the RC-F beats the M4. The M4 is over 7mph and 0.7s faster in the ¼ mile, that is a massive difference. That translates to the M4 being more than 120 feet ahead of the RC-F when it crosses the ¼ mile mark .
The BMW strategy to keep weight down seems to be winner. What a lame excuse about "keeping performance accessible" And the looks, predator face, horrendous IMO Massive fail for Lexus |

Most of the reviews I've read on the RC F have been damning with faint praise. The torque vectoring differential sounds interesting though. Also, no AWD and still 400 lbs heavier? Yeesh.

Yes the reviews so far for this car have not been great. Impressive car, but already behind the last gen Audi and Merc in performance, and way behind the BMW in both looks and performance.
I personally like the way the car looks, its unique at a minimum. And the price point will be the lower of the 4, even more so when Audi and Merc release their next gen models in the next year or so. At least its competition, that can only help keep the others on their toes.

This car is an absolute turd. Heinously ugly, slow, only offered with a conventional automatic. If you buy this car over its competition you're certifiably insane.

honestly, the best way to describe this car is a generation behind. its a generation behind in chassis technology, transmission tech, lack of lightweight concepts and materials compared to the f8x from BMW and almost certainly the new amg from merc and rs from audi.
it sucks

I just like the CF additions and the functional rear spoiler. Otherwise, and despite being in the same class, it's not a great competitor to the M4 whatsoever.

Just goes to show that Toyota no longer knows how to build sports cars except for the LF-A and even then they are losing money on a $400k+ sale for a car that's no faster than cars costing half the price.
I pray for Toyota's sake that the FT-1 will be a great car on the track and on the street. It really confuses me what companies like Subaru and BMW benefit from working with Toyota to build sports cars? I guess it's just that Toyota has the bank roll. |

Wow, you guys are brutal.
I'm personally excited to see competitors to our M4, the next gen Audi RS5 is rumored to push 475+ hp, next gen Mercedes C63 AMG will push 500 hp, Cadillac ATS-V is supposed to be pushing 430 hp... I'm glad Lexus made the RC F, it'll inspire BMW to stay on its toes. Yeah, I think the design is not attractive at all, the weight is shocking and the prelim performance #s are much slower than I expected. And the pricing for some of the options like carbon fiber roof runs $9000+ (as you need to get 2 options to get that) is absurd. The Lexus forums of course, is really excited (though I did not post this review on their site as riots will start based on acceleration tests alone). |

Re read what you wrote. It isn't competitive
That's why people are disappointed because it's not real competition. I'm sure merc and Audi will do better This may be competive with an e92, and even then it would probably lose out |

You're missing the point. It certainly is competition, same class/price/specs although the raw perf #s on this supposed prelim version isn't very good.
That said, I'm looking forward in the next year or so when the rest of the brands update their vehicles and the showdown begins. I think the M4 will come in 1st or 2nd due to chassis dynamics. Last edited by aperng; 09-08-2014 at 11:53 PM.. |

Wow, Lexus really blew it with this one. Had the potential to make something great, but literally is not paying attention to what's going on around them and already lost the competition before it started. Pro-bono consulting work from bimmerpost members would have resulted in a better outcome.

This is unbelievable. I had high expectations for this car. Toyota had ample opportunity to correct the shortcomings of their first foray into the market, but it's like they doubled down on all the characteristics that made the last model underwhelm. It really seems like they don't understand this segment at all.

Btw, lots of news/rumors on the 2016 Audi RS5 - dropping 200 lbs (on the A5 line anyway) and a possible 4.0 liter twin turbo V8. Yikes. If only it was RWD..

Yeah, agree with most posters. It hasn't came out and it's really more than a generation behind some similar power to weight ratio'd cars of the last decade or more. 12.9 at 110mph in 1/4? Wtf? I know straight line speed isn't top priority for many people, but why not pay much less for other Lexus models that probably perform way closer to the RCF disproportionately than their price difference is.
Even a bit overweight, those times should be much better with that engine |

Tough times at Clublexus.com's RC-F forum, they were expecting a much better car after being hyped by Toyota as a "track ready" enthusiast choice.
