Amplifier is dead

5,050 miles on my M235i. Driving along with low volume music playing... heard a loud pop and crackling from the speakers and all audio went dead. No dings, dongs, or any type of sound coming from the speakers.

Took the car into this morning to BMW, confirmed amp is dead, part on back order won't be here for 2 weeks! Is this a common wait time for a part? Hard to believe amplifiers are on back order.

They managed to not reinstall the trunk rubber seal correctly causing my trunk to not close on the first try and dash light stayed on... I didn't notice until I was home (had to slam trunk to get dash light off) fixed it myself in the garage after wrestling with it for 15min. I understand parts fail, but please be competent enough to reinstall a rubber seal correctly. Totally unacceptable... thanks BMW Concord.

I guess you don't have ASD anymore either....

Do you still feel louder exhaust when going from comfort to sport+?

Funny you mention that. I never felt active sound was intrusive at all before, but now that I don't have any sound from speakers, it's A LOT quieter in sport mode. Now I feel like I need the performance exhaust!

Interestingly today all audio stopped coming out of my driver side door but continued playing from the passenger side. It also sounded severely under powered with no bass. Tried turning off car and back on and no change. After letting it sit for a bit and turning the car back on the sound was back to normal. I'll monitor it and if it happens again I'll have to bring it in.

Edit: reporting that I have HK.

I have had both subs go out in three different occasions now. I have the Harmon kardon. I park the car overnight and the next day it's back to normal.

I'd guess that's it's just a freak amp failure. My family has three BMW 3ers w/ HK and we've never had any issues (despite the heat we have here).

Sucks those guys didn't put the seal back properly either. I usually take my car to BMW of Fremont; they've been good about all the minor fixes the past 2 years on my 328i. It's a bit of a drive from San Ramon, but the service folks are good.

Hopefully the part comes quickly!

I agree, think it's just a freak failure too. Thanks for the info about BMW of Fremont!
