Coding self-help fun

Well, I've done some coding with my shitty work laptop and the new car. It's a bit wacky to sit in the car with it running for an hour while I fiddle with half-german half-english software.

Legal disclaimers are gone! As are the 3 gongs to welcome me to the car.

Mirrors close with fob lock. Comfort access lock closes the mirrors right after I code it but it doesn't seem to stick. It always works with the fob, so i'll live.

Handles do light up when in reverse to help illuminate for the top view cameras. Win.

Haven't tested the "curb/grass detection" that the LDW sensors provide, but I've turned it on. More nannies to prevent curb rash = win.

Looks like euro lights are working. I can't quite get auto high beam to be automatically on yet I don't think, minor quibble.

Plus, haven't blown up the car...

If any of you decide to put together a DIY for coding, that would be.......good.

When i purchased my cable I received a "cheat sheet". There is also a VO coding reference that helps. A member on another forum (hint: festival of bmw) has an extensive F30 reference document that applies to us.

I would write it up for here but it is a) mostly copying other people's stuff and b) probably subject to banning as the code bans have been nuts around here.

Update: mirrors close with comfort access too. Can't move your finger off the lock point superfast.

pillpusher coded my car remotely last weekend, for free. Love that guy! If you need a cable, get one from here

h tt p://bm w e net.co m

His cable is well made and priced very reasonable. You would be very hard to make one yourself that cheap if you buy parts yourself.

Do your auto high beams turn on automatically? Mine still aren't quite there.

Clarification: Is auto high already on as soon as the lights turn on, or do you have to push the button?

It doesn't go on by itself. I have to turn it on, which is fine with me as I only want it on when I want to.

EDIT: It doesn't go on by itself. Sorry for the typo.

I thought this was standard with top view cameras?

Wasn't on my 5. Don't think it was there on the M3 pre-code but I'm not confident. I remember changing the setting when I coded...

Coding done

Got mine coded today by Kao of bim_c_oding who was in town. Nice guy, only took about 30 minutes. So far, so good; anxious to try out the headlights.

- Activate Variable Light Distribution
- Activate Active High Beam Assistant
- Activate Enhanced Bluetooth
- Activate iDrive Office
- Activate rear fog lights
- Activate door handle lights in reverse
- Disable iDrive Accept screen
- Disable camera disclaimer

I don't think there are any issues with us regular users talking about coding and helping each other out/writing self-help guides. The issues arose with some of the earlier guys as they were building and selling cables, offering to help for free, but occasionally accepting tips/etc...the whole thing gets muddy when they aren't paying forums vendors.

I don't feel the need for it. I park in private garages 80% of the time. It only saves 2 1/2" in width, though it might protect the glass a little.

On mine I only had access to "Service Messages". Now "Office" appears in the main menu with access to other message types.

1 touch windows while the door is open is probably one of the most useful features.
