BMW NA E92 M3 Brochure Recieved

I stopped by my dealer today (VOB in Rockville, MD) to check on updates and was handed the new M3 brochure. My salesman said they got them in yesterday. Anyone else got theirs?

Here are some pics: (notice the speedo in MPH, also notice the ugly side markers on the front )

Notice the 6 spd manual. I sure hope to see DCT in 2008!

Ooo - that would be awfully poor form to release the E92 and E90 M3 in the US without M-DCT.

If that is the case and I can't get M-DCT this upcoming June, it will be E92 335i plus DINAN flash on lease for 2 years for me, and then M6 or M5 - which doesn't sound so bad, when I think about it.

DCT release next year doesnt look so bright considering the brochure doesnt have anything about it.

I looked through the brochure for any hints of M-DCT, but no luck. Looks like first year will be 6 speed only. Who knows maybe they will do 2008.5 with M-DCT? Unlikely though since its looking like we won't see our cars till summer anyways.

All this points more and more towards the relative tanking of the US release of the M3.

All this - No pricing release, likely moving the M3 too far upmarket compared to what US buyers and previous M3 drivers are willing to pay, no M-DCT, awful AWFUL interior options, MUCH stronger competition than any previous M3 has faced.

The reason I was at BMW today was to look at the M5. They have one with the suede headliner, the tan wood dash and black extended leather in the metallic black exterior. It is so damn sexy...I am driving it this coming Monday.

My salesman seems all about selling me an M5, but my heart is still with the M3. Things are changing though, I am losing interest. My biggest excuse to get an M5 right now is not standing out, I feel like the cops will more likely pull me over in the M3 than the M5...dunno maybe thats a stretch.

I looked at the M5, but I need an eco friendly vehicle for commutes. I am stretching it with the M3.

Similar to what my dealer emailed to me. The one I have has all the options, just not as many pictures.

That speedo is a disaster zone. Pack with numbers. And non-linear spacing. Why the kms? Can't the few Americans who make it to Canada manage for a few days? Why do I need to stare at that everyday?

The dash looks damn sexy without that extra hump. I don't like the busy speedo either - just like the M5/M6 apparently. Is there a pic anywhere in that brochure that doesn't have the roof 'fin?' I can dream...

Sadly no, both the sedan and the coupe have the "fin" in all photos.

At least they didn't reduce the top speed on the speedo because of the US 155 limiter, that would be teh suck. I suspect it will not be long before US companies offer programs to take off the limiter, as the German spec tops out at 170 I believe. Watch it be like 2 grand for that extra 15mph.

Good catch. I think they're standard though. They got their photos mixed up.

I think you have made some valid points. This launch is botched. Also, the EUR/USD has played havoc w/ BMW AG's and BMW USA's anticipated profitability. Simultaneously we have C63 / RS4 - no comps like this for the e46.

And if Porsche does - as I expect they will - bring out a more powerful Cayman S, then that's more fuel. I also saw a post here from an owner of a pristine M5 w/ ~ 7k miles for $73k The extensive options list for US reveals that BMW want to make a whole lot more on adding in 'fruit' - when in other - admittedly pricier - markets the M3 comes more as an all-in sale.

The US market is so competitive - and the M3 such an important halo car for 3-series' sales, that I believe it would be a major error in judgement for the default pricing on the new M3 to move up out of reach of many passionate e46 m3 owners and aspirational owners (I count myself in this group).

A low mileage used 911 - for me - becomes too interesting if the M3 ends up at $70k (with most of the needed options, I include edc, and m-dct here - speaking for myself).
