My Complete Detail List of Products

Taking delivery in about 10, 9, 8...days. Here's my list of detail stuff for care and feeding. Feel free to add or comment on what you like to use.

Idea is to wash regularly at self wash (using their low pressure spray of water and soap) or take through touchless car wash. Use all the below as needed.

Detail once or twice a year including professional wax job.

It looks like Advanced Auto Parts and Pep Boys are starting to carry Griot's products. Watch for their coupons online. Amazon is also a great source of Griot's products. And, wow, the price of all this stuff really adds up.

I have nothing to do with Griot's. I decided that I wanted to stay within one family of products to make selection and products working together easier. Their customer service department has also helped answer many questions.

Wash
5 gallon buckets, Lowes - 2 each - $3.00 each
The Grit Guard Insert (these go in the buckets), Amazon - Set of 2 - $9.00 each
Griot's 11102 Car Wash, 16 oz - $8.99
Griot's 10268 Micro Fiber Wash Mitt - Set of 2 - $14.99
For in-between washing:
Griot's 10950 Speed Shine, 22 oz.- $10.99
Griot's 11231 Micro Fiber Speed Shine Cloth - Set of 3 - $16.99
Or
Griot's Spray and Wash along with Spray and Wash Cloths

Bug and Tar
Griot's 10982 Bug and Smudge, 22 oz. - $14.99
Amazon - Viking 845100 Microfiber Mesh Bug and Tar Sponge - $3.20

Dry
Griot's 11117 Micro Fiber Drying Towel - $26.99
Griot's 11239 Micro Fiber Wipe Down Towel (for jambs, etc.) - $7.99

Wax
Probably will pay someone to do complete wax couple times a year.
For in-between waxing
Griot's 10962 Spray-On Wax, 22 oz. - $13.99
Apply with Griot's Wax Removal Towels
Remove with Griot's 11117 Micro Fiber Drying Towel - $26.99

Wheels
Amazon - Sonax (230200-755) Wheel Cleaner Full Effect - $15.95 (they sell a 6 pack at big savings)
or Griot's Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner but I'm not lovin' the burnt cherry smell
Griot's Garage 15597 Lug Nut Cleaning Brush - $15.99
Amazon - EZ Detail Brush (large) - $25.00
Amazon - EZ Detail Brush (mini) - $15.00
Griot's sells the same 2 brushes above as their own. Autogeek sells as Speed Master Two Brush Combo.
Use any inexpensive microfiber towels for wipe down.

Tires
3M 39042 Tire Restorer, 16 oz. - Amazon - $13.99
Chemical Guys ACC_2001 Tire and Trim Contour Applicator - Amazon - $5.67
(not sure if will need rubber cleaner and tire brush beyond soap and hand brush offered at self-wash facility)
Tire Brush (it's needs to be very narrow to help accommodate low profile tires)

Windows
Griot’s Foaming Glass Cleaner, 19 oz. - $5.99
(or Stoner Invisible Glass Cleaner Spray Can at Walmart) - $5
Amazon 16x20 Microfiber Glass Cloths, 6 Pack - $12.98
(or Griot's 11096 Micro Fiber Glass Cleaning Cloth Set) - $19.99
(or Scott Glass Cleaning Towels at Walmart in auto department) - $1.50

Interior
Griot’s Interior Cleaner, 22 oz. - $9.99 (use also for regular leather cleaning)
Griot’s Vinyl & Rubber Dressing, 8 oz. - $9.99 (use on exterior as well)
Griot’s Micro Fiber Cleaner Pads - $8.99
Griot’s Micro Fiber Interior Cloths - $9.99

Leather
Groit's Interior Cleaner
Griot's Leather Care Spray - 22 oz. - $10.99
Griot’s Leather 3 in 1, 16 oz. - $12.99
Griot’s Blue Detail Sponges - $5.99
Griot's Micro Fiber Interior Cloths mentioned above.

Towel Washing
Griot's Micro Fiber Foam and Pad Cleaner, 35 oz. - $12.99

Organization
Organize items on shelving unit in Walmart inexpensive 2 gallon buckets, lots of them.

I'd only add that a cleaner wax is nice on occasion and I've been having great results with the armor all tire glaze. This could stand a touch up but been three weeks since application.

Thanks as always bems4. When is a cleaner wax used? I wanted to experiment with the 3M tire product because it got rave reviews on amazon.

Without getting too down in the weeds, regular wax provides a layer of protection and cleaner wax, AKA all in one wax, has some chemicals in it to clean the surface of the paint (or clear coat if you want to get technical) and then provide a layer of protection. So in other words, if you wax and your paint isn't perfect you are putting wax on top of whatever is stuck on your finish. The cleaner wax will get rid of some of that crap. Granted you could go all out and clay bar, etc. but cleaner wax is an easier but not as effective method. I typically do cleaner wax, regular wax, top coat wax once a season and regular wax, top coat wax once a month.

I would definitely add the clay bar kit as a required item, especially if you have black paint like mine.

Don't use Rain X. It messes up the auto wiper sensors.

+1. I would, however, highly recommend it for the shower door at home though.

I like Amsoil waterless car wash. It is phenomenal for getting rubber deposits from the track off the car. just spray on and wipe them off. If you don't track your car, you wouldn't know about them, but if you do, its a god-send.

Rain tends to sheet after Rain X instead of beading up. The sensor can't tell how much rain is on the windshield.

+1 above. I use R-X a lot, and I suspect it was my ultimate fault, and will take the mickey on it, but if it does not all get buffed really well, and even then, there is that tendacy to get a wiper smear on a cool fall day rain. NOT good--so I quite it completely.

A friend recco'd the G's Glass Sealant--and I reluctantly tried it. This time I decided to do things differently.

Cleaned really thoroughly; then clayed the glass. Then cleaned the clay lube off. Applied G's Sealant with thin complete layer via a very clean cotton cloth---let dry maybe 10 minutes and then buffed off. Very nice BUT,

When I got through, I wondered if what had happened with the RX might happen again---so pulled out the orbital, slapped on a very clean microfiber pad, and used that for final machine buff. WORKED like a charm...and will continue to use it and above process. MAYBE if I had worked the RX same way, might have had similar results, but am not going back to RX to find out now----I like the water beading...not sheeting. There's a song title in there somewhere.

You can buy lint free towels...usually come in a box--and are disposable. G's has them around 25$ for 150? count.
Honestly, I just invested in some of the better microfiber towels for glass and keep them clean. I like the "glass cloths" because they have a very nice tight weave -- but any really fine MFiber cloths will do just fine.

If you get them on amazon, they have a big pack in assorted colors. I tend to use all of one color on most delicate areas first, then after a few washings downgrade to less problematic spots, before finally ending up on wheel duty. No matter how clean you think they are invariably they get stuff stuck in them.

For all you Sonax Full Effect fans, I thought I'd pass along an amazing deal I just found on Amazon. They just started offering a 6 pack for only $46.84 which includes the extra $5 off the are offering. Not sure how long deal will last. The product doesn't come up in typical searches. Search for "Sonax (230200-6-6PK) Wheel Cleaner Full Effect".

If you ordered via Amazon, they will likely give you the difference back if you asked. For me, they missed giving me the coupon, contacted them and they gave it to me. Let's see....$50k car and I'm worried about $5 what's wrong with this picture?

The coupon is 1 per customer so I got 2 cases but just one coupon. Just FYI.
