Changing out stock pads
Even though I have the 19 inch black wheel option after only a few miles of driving my wheels are filthy. Wondering if any members have investigated swapping out the stock pads for something with a different compound mixture?
I had this same issue on my 2001 325 ci. After 2 weeks of owning it if was in the garage getting new pads. Had the same issue with my 2008 335. After 3 weeks it was getting new pads. |

I'm trying to get Carbotech 1521 pads (virtually no dust) but they don't have the F8X pad shape yet.

Dusty
The dust is always heavy during the wear-in of the pads/rotors, as the cross-hatch machining is scuffed-off and the pads bed-in. Dust will be somewhat less after around 500 miles.
Gotta say that I think BMW does an excellent job w/factory pads (street) and I use Pagid race pads for the track. Have used other street/track pads combo pads and the factory set up is better IMO. Still gotta wash the wheels once/week. The CCBs aren't dusty, so you can always updrade -Brian S. |

I'd have to agree. I think factory pads are superb for street. And proper track pads are better for track. Never found "street/track hybrid" pads that great. Compromises all around. Dust never bothered me for some reason. Just wash the wheels once a week
I had my wheels opti-coted on last 3 vehicles our family owned. Makes getting brake dust of them that much easier. It just comes off with some rinsing from the hose. I don't use wheel cleaners anymore unless I left wheels neglected for many many weeks and dust is truly caked on there.

Zeckhausen now has some pad alternatives for the car: http://store.zeckhausen.com/catalog/...6005_6006_6007.
Used the semi-metallic on my E46 M3 and liked them a lot. They don't stop as well as stock, but the difference is small and my wheels stayed shiny. I'm going to give them a try on the new M4. |

IND now has Carbotech pads for the F8X
Virtually no dust and, in my experience, similar street performance to stock pads. My order is going in tomorrow (along with a set of track pads ).
