UPDATE: dealer could not properly diagnose the problem. They seem to think that the sound from this video was from, "rust build up on the parking break." This happened after a 10 mile drive with no problems, the parking break was not engaged, and the car was on a level surface moving forward slowly. What are your thoughts...

I was driving into my neighborhood when I started hearing a loud grinding noise from the back of the car....the brake pad fell off! The symphony of shitty sounds coming from my new M4: (1) metal grinding/clunking from the back rear wheel assembly, (2) exhaust that sounds like a cheap lawn mower with tin cans rattling around, (3) the defective wheels bearings that click constantly under load/on turns, (4) the rattle from the cheap plastic cover over the child seat anchor behind back seats, and (5) the blow Harmon Kardon front speaker... all equal a serious buzz kill on the driving experience.

Car is being taken by tow truck to the dealer tomorrow. They will be replaced the wheel assembly and replacing the exhaust. Brought it in the replace the wheel bearings last week, whatever they did has not worked. Those will surely be replaced against this week.

Wow ! That sucks . If that happen to me after owing my M4 for only a month , I believe it would be hard to trust the car going any where . You see the post from M owners all the time with all the recent issues but getting fixed . I wonder how many owners will just give up and trade them away .

Get rid of the car and get something else. It obviously is not working out for you.

That answer ought to fuel the goldilocks vs blue mafia argument for sure!

Is it possible they worked on that corner of your car more to diagnose the wheel bearing issue and just reinstalled the brake pad wrong? Making it a service technician problem and not a manufacturing defect? Or is it a totally different corner of your car that failed this time?

Sounds like a lemon. My car just completed a full track day completing roughly 45 laps without any problems. In fact the brakes are probably the most impressive standard brakes I've tried in a M-car, I'm sure the CCBs must be exceptional.

Sorry to hear about your problems, somehow my feeling is once a car is starting to have a lot of different problems they never seem to stop. Better get out and move a long instead of being left frustrated and disappointed.

Really? What % of cars have problems? How does that compare to other new model releases by major manufacturers?

Seriously, if you could please try not to cloud this issue with facts. They really do make it harder to whip up some hysteria.

I had a grinding sound from my rear brakes this weekend. I had just driven over small rocks. I stopped put it in reverse and the noise stopped. I have CCB.

CCB are known to make grinding and squealing noises. Very normal. A good friend owns a GT3 RS and a GT2 RS, both with CCB, and the brakes are very noisey. Just part of the territory with CCB for the performance benefit. His got progressively louder with time.

if he has oem pads on the car shouldn't make so much as squeek unless its caked with dust. the more aggresive porsche motorsport pads however squeel like the devil until they are warmed up and they only heat up on a track.

op, that sucks. hope they get the car right for you. should not have to spend that much time in the shop. we had pretty much no major issues with the 22 euro delivery cars other than one with a loose vacuum hose and someone wiped out their euro maps accidently.

I wish it would have just been a mechanical defect, but only the front wheels were touched when they were diagnosing the wheel bearing noises. This is in the back left rear.
