▀▄ eas | DIY: F8X M3 & M4 Awron DIY Installation Instructions
Awron Digital Vent Gauge The Awron DGA Gauge is an all-in-one display unit that presents a wide array of real time data for the 3-Series & 4-Series. Featuring a sharp, full color OLED display, the Awron DGA gauge is easily controlled using the factory steering wheel buttons for on the fly commands. By replacing one of the factory air ducts the DGA gauge flows seamlessly with BMW's interior. Awron is also the supplier for Alpina, a respected name in the BMW community. All Awron gauges ship expertly pre-assembled into an OEM air duct piece. The effect is stunning, creating an OEM look and feel that is hard to distinguish from BMW's own quality. The predominantly orange colors used in the display match the M3's gauges nicely. All data is selectable from your OEM steering wheel buttons in both German and English languages. Units can be switched from Imperial or Metric readings. This All-in-1 gauge is the perfect option for track enthusiasts, street cars or for those just wanting to add some flair and functionality to the M3's interior. The included plug and play harness with BMW-type connectors make the job of installing this many gauges easier than ever. Installation is about 1.5 hours. Once completed, the finish and quality look like it was offered from BMW. Dashboard Trim/Vent Removal 1. Preparing for installation. Clean any belongings and loose clutter out of the way. Battery cables need not be removed, but ignition should be OFF and key placed temporarily out of reach. Radio/iDrive should not be turned on at any point during installation. 2. Removing the dashboard trim is very simple as its held in by clips only. With hands on both ends, carefully pull towards you and pop out of place. Pay extra attention to the small trim running underneath the passenger vent. Disconnect emergency lamp/door lock switch and remove dashboard trim. Place on workbench with blanket or protective surface underneath to prevent scratching. 3. Vents are held in by small clips that must be gently pried outward to release, working from one end to the next. Pull slightly on vents while pulling clips to remove vents from dash trim. 4. Clips are located on top and underside of vents. 5. Remove vent assembly from dash trim. 6. Remove emergency lamp/door lock switch by pushing out from backside. 7. Awron display, ready to be installed. Keep plastic protective film in place as extra precaution 8. Position Awron display over dashboard trim, making sure in correct orientation. Push and clip into place. 9. Push and clip Awron assembly into place, even pressure on both ends. 10. Awron unit installed. Part 1 is complete.

Wiring & Cable Routing Included with all Awron packages are factory-like wiring bundles using BMW/AMP type connectors to make the install process as quick and easy as possible. No cutting or splicing is necessary and the car and installation can be reversed with no trace when the car is sold/traded in. 11. Start by removing passenger side kick panel which is held in by clips and (2) 10mm nuts. 12. Pull on outward edges to free from lower glovebox, keeping mind of cigarette lighter and footwell lamp still plugged in. 13. Remove connector plug for 12V Accessory plug/cigarette lighter 14. Remove connector for footwell lighting. 15. Prepare Awron harness to fish through lower opening up to vent area. Snake cable or coathanger will work as a suitable line to help route harness to vent opening. 16. Retrieve harness through top side of vent area and pull slight amount of slack. 17. Remove passenger side door sill by carefully pulling in upward motion, taking care not to break delicate clips underneath. 18. Remove passenger side door sill and set aside. 19. Pull on passenger side plastic kickpanel and set aside to reveal FEM_BODY module. 20. FEM_BODY module revealed. Awron will be reading data from this module (same solurce as BMW M-Performance Steering Wheel when released). 21. Remove plastic trim cover, held in by T20 Torx screw. 22. FEM_BODY module houses assorted connectors for various modules/sensors within the vehicle's network. We will be concentrating on Connectors 3 (CON3), Connector 8 (CON8), and Connector 10 (CON10). Connector 3 (CON3) 23. Remove CON3 from FEM_BODY module. 24. CON3 removed from FEM-BODY module. 25. Remove housing from CON3 connectors to reveal connector blocks, which will be used for connectivity. Keep note on position and orientation. 26. Separate connector blocks, we will be focusing on the BLUE connector, which will house +12V and GROUND wires. 27. With a pick or the tip of a ballpoint pen, depress connector barb on terminal 20 (GREEN/BROWN). 28. Pressing on the connector's retaining barb is repeated in 2 stages to remove from connector block. 29. GREEN/BROWN wire removed from connector block. Repeat process for PIN24 (BROWN/BLACK) wire. 30. Wires in Awron harness correspond to the same colors and positions that are utilized in your BMW. Insert GREEN/GREY wire from Awron harness into PIN20 of connector block and BROWN/BLACK wire into PIN24. Wires should be routed as follows: AWRON GREEN/GREY wire >> PIN20 in BMW Connector 3 AWRON BROWN/BLACK wire >> PIN24 in BMW Connector 3 BMW GREEN/GREY wire >> PIN1 of included BLACK 2PIN connector BMW BROWN/BLACK wire >> PIN2 of included BLACK 2PIN connector 31. Plug 2PIN connector to Awron harness. 32. Reinsert CON3 to FEM_BODY module. Connector 10 (CON10) 33. Repeat disassembly steps for Connector 10 (CON10), removing PIN3 from connector housing. Insert GREEN/BLUE (MY15-16) or YELLOW/BLUE (MY17+) wire into connector housing. Insert removed wire into PIN1 of included BLUE 2PIN connector. Wires should be routed as follows: AWRON GREEN/BLUE wire >> PIN3 in BMW Connector 10 BMW GREEN/GREY wire >> PIN1 of included BLUE 2PIN connector Note: Wire color has changed on MY17+, YELLOW/BLUE. Pin position is still same as previous models. Connector 8 (CON8) 33. Repeat disassembly steps for Connector 8 (CON8), removing PIN47 (RED) & PIN48 (BLUE/RED) from connector housing. Insert (RED) wire from Awron harness into PIN47 and (BLUE/RED) wire from Awron harness into PIN48 of connector housing. Insert removed BMW wires into included WHITE 2PIN connector. Wires should be routed as follows: AWRON RED wire >> PIN47 in BMW Connector 8 AWRON BLUE/RED wire >> PIN48 in BMW Connector 8 BMW RED wire >> PIN1 of included BLACK 2PIN connector BMW BLUE/RED wire >> PIN2 of included BLACK 2PIN connector Reinsert CON3, CON8 and CON10 into their original locations, making sure Awron harness is plugged into the BLUE, WHITE and BLACK 2PIN connectors.

Very well done on the DIY. So much so that it guaranties I will order it from you, rather than someone else. Have to wait until I get back to the US and pick up my M4, though!
Thanks again |

I saw someone who had installed in the vent to the left of the steering wheel. Do you offer this option as well? If I remember correctly there was even a little vent space left under it so we still had some venting. Great unit, just don't know if I can give up my favorite (and needed) vent.

Quote:
Awron strategically places their vents in the line of view when driving, which would be the middle vents.
