How do you turn up Active Sound in M4?
So I picked up my M4 here in Calgary and the sound of the engine is really quiet inside the car. No idea what the issue is but it must be setting that is wrong? Anyone have info on how to turn up active sound?

This is how... but maybe use a coke can, so you don't get a DUI.

Side question: I've read both that Active Sound synthesizes sound, and that it amplifies the actual exhaust sound.
I'd like to believe this post, which says the latter. http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=893548 So if that's true, does anyone know where the mic is? Also my $0.02 - if there was the ability to adjust the volume of Active Sound, I'd totally play with it, and it might end up louder. Kudos to the OP for being brave enough to ask

Actually, I can vouch and say this specifically DOESN'T work. The engine itself is extremely quiet, all you really hear is the interior soundtrack. Lowering the windows introduces wind noise and you can hear even less. The engine note is literally louder inside than outside. So the better suggestion is to close the windows.

I would imagine coders will figure out some of the active sound features and volume/full off may be in our futures . The OP here has me feeling that I definitely won't hate the active sound though

I just dont like how uneven the sound is. Sometimes you downshift and it gives a nice rev match with a pop that feels very mechanical.
Then sometimes you downshift and its a flat rev and just sounds like you went into the wrong gear (even at low speeds/rpm) It seems very sporadic too, its not like at a certain speed you will get the better sound... its just a toss up.
