Wheel bearings
My front wheels are clicking & ticking constantly now. For the last two weeks it was just when I was turning at higher speeds...now the sounds are coming when I'm going straight and turning constantly.
Anyone else having this issue? |

haven't seen anything. Not a rock or nail in your tire? Lift wheels and try free turning.

Someone else here was having that issue. Or was this your second thread regarding the bearings clicking? I know I read someone else posting about clicking bearings within the last 2 days.

Classic bearing failure noise is grinding when turning. Doesn't seem to be what you describe.

Wheel bearings are a groaning noise that is usually present at all times. It sounds like worn out tires or mudder tires with a big treat. Hummmmmm. But unlike worn tires, where pitch increases with speed, failed wheel bearing noises increase volume as speed increases. It starts out quiet, only present when that wheel is loaded in a turn, and as it fails worse, it is present at all times, louder when that wheel is loaded, quieter when wheel is not loaded. Sounds like something else on your car. |

Yeah I'd find a tall curb or a fence close to the road where you can roll down your windows and drive really slow to see if you can isolate the click sound - if it's a rock or nail you should be able to roll just past it, stop, and find it. You should also be able to isolate which side and which tire(s) for the sound.

It's not a rock or a nail. It is the hub assembly for sure. The sound increases with speed and with load. I'm taking it in for service today. I'll keep ya posted on what it is.
These sounds are driving me nuts! Do any of you know if the exhaust flaps will stay open if you unplug the cable going into them while they are in the open position? |

At least its not the dreaded "cow bell" sound that the e9X suffered from. Made it sound like you were "just married" when driving down the street.....

I have a loud metal on metal sound when turning during weight transfer (e.g. braking downhill and turning sharp). Hard to say where it's coming from, probably parking brake.

UPDATE on this issue. My dealer could recreate my clicking noise. He said its exactly the same that the F30 has a TSB for right now (some swivel joint). He ordered the parts and i should have her fixed shortly.

Was this sound for you guys one where the frequency of the sound increased directly proportionate to speed? Sounds like something rubbing with each wheel revolution - which would explain why the sound increases/descreases exactly proportionate to speed.
Also - after approx. 10 minutes of driving, I was able to get the sound to initially go away completely when going straight or turning wheel to the left - but sound remained when turning wheel to the right. Approximately 20 minutes later, I was able to get the sound to go almost completely away regardless of going straight, turning left or right. Toward the end of the drive (about 40 minutes total) the sound only occasionally came back (sometimes after going over slight bump in the road) and then go away again... If the sound keeps coming back after a few days then I'm going to bring it in as well... |

My car was in the shop for the past two days for a clicking noise from the passenger front tire and rattling noise from the exhaust. Dealer is ordering a wheel bearing. They cleaned the bearing and the noise increased. They are also replacing the exhaust system.
