Music through Iphone Apps via Bluetooth

For some reason, I am unable to output the audio from my iphone's apps to the car via bluebooth. For example, if I am playing a video through Youtube, or listening to a song on Pandora, the music does not output the car's speakers. From messing around with the car, I noticed that if I unpair the device and repair it via bluebooth, it will work. However, once I turn off the car and turn it back on, the music no longer works. The odd thing is that the device is still paired because I can make calls and receive calls via bluebooth, but I just can't output the music to the car. If I connect my iphone via the usb cable, everything works fine. Please advise if there is something else I should be doing to activate the music (The iphone is selected as the multimedia device in the car).

Thanks

Thanks for your reply. Both YouTube and pandora work via Bluetooth from my iPhone when I first pair the device so I don't think using the BMW app is a requirement. It just doesn't work after the car is turned off and back on.

There is no sound coming out when it is not working. One more interesting thing to mention is that the music stored on my iphone (mp3s in my phone) DO output to the cars speakers via Bluetooth but once I load up a different app like YouTube or pandora, no sound comes out....

there might be something with how the app sends the sound... some have an option to select the output device.... specially those that have bmw native apps like tunein and pandora

I'm having the same issue. I use the Rhapsody app on my iPhone to play back music. It is very frustrating... It will simply stop playing when connected to Bluetooth and the connection seems very intermittent. When I connect the USB cable the Rhapsody screen will show a BMW logo with the message "Screen Locked" My 2014 GMC Sierra truck's multimedia interface works much better than BMW's! What am I missing??

I have the optional Technology Package. Just did a Google search on this issue and figured out what I was doing wrong.

Sure! I assume you have the Technology Package. Also, I can't speak for Pandora. I use the Rhapsody app...but since both are apps, they should function the same (I assume).

Requirements
To use Rhapsody for BMW Apps you must have:
1) A 2011 or newer BMW, Rolls Royce, or Mini Cooper with BMW Apps
2) An iOS device with iOS 5.1 or higher
3) The latest Rhapsody iOS app installed on your device
4) An active Rhapsody Premier or Rhapsody Premier Plus subscription
5) A USB to vehicle connection
6) An active data connection (3G, LTE, WiFi) for streaming playback, although offline playback is supported for downloaded content
Launch
1) Plug your iOS device in to your BMW using your USB cable
2) Launch the Rhapsody app
3) When Rhapsody is open and connected to your BMW you will see a lock screen that shows you're connected to your BMW
4) On your BMW head unit, scroll to CD/Multimedia and tap OK
5) Scroll to Rhapsody and tap OK
Use
1) The Rhapsody app will allow you to search and play our full catalog of over 18 million tracks
2) The Rhapsody screen on your BMW head unit allows you to access:
1) Now Playing - displays your now playing queue
2) Discover Music - Search for tracks, view Top Tracks, check out New Releases
3) Playlists - Featured Playlists + your Rhapsody playlists
4) Downloads - shows downloads on phone app
5) Radio - Access Artist Radio or browse Rhapsody stations by genre
6) Add to Favourites - adds the current track to your Favourites playlist
7) Previous Track
8) Next Track

Thanks for the reply. However, based on those instructions, it seems like the Iphone has to be plugged in via the USB. If I plug in my phone via USB, it works perfectly fine regardless of what app I use (youtube, pandora, stock music app, etc.) However, it is when I am connected through bluetooth and not USB that it doesn't work. I've given up and just decided to use USB if I need to play something through my Iphone.
