Preparing an M235i for winter

I know we are in July and summer is in its full swing, but I think it will be useful to start a thread for us guys who will have to deal with the lower temps, snow and ice.
I started looking at the TR website for my winter wheel setup.
I am basing my setup on some 17" wheels/tires packages (non-staggered) for the winter.

There was another thread where I asked if 17inch rims will clear M235i pizza-like brake disks. Most people said no.

According to Tire Rack those are supposed to fight the M235i. I am looking to do the same exact setup along with TPMS. (Tire Pressure Monitor system)

straight from Tire Rack chat

Me: Hi i just want to confirm that these wheels will fit the M235i. As i have read that 17 don't clear the caliper.

Me: http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...ed&showRear=no

Nolan: Yes, these will be guaranteed to fit. As long as you are searching by the exact make, model and year of the vehicle, all the wheels listed are guaranteed to fit. If the wheel is an aggressive fit that requires any modification, that will be stated under the "important notes" link/tab.

Me: ok great thanks

Yea me too that is why I wanted to confirm it as i want that setup too. I can confirm that Sport Edition KM11 wheels will not fit. They are like a hair to small in circumference. Just scrap on the top side of the caliper. sucks cause i already have them and was hoping to keep them.
They will be up for sale soon.

Bummer. I have the KM11s also. Guess I'll be looking for new winter rims too.

I had 128i with black bremmer wheels as my winter setup. I hated those wheels because dirt tended to stick on them and was quite visible (maybe because of poor aerodynamics it got sucked in ?). Also the silver lip corroded quickly and destroyed the look. Because of that this time I will probably go with silver look for my M235i.

Here how it looked like when it was new:

It seems 17-inch is a pretty good choice in the winter. I have another stupid question. So if I buy the set without TPMS, the lights will be constantly on? Or I am able to "register" and let the system know?

I'm thinking of waiting till Oct. or later to get winter set-up.

a) first concern is that the latest style snow tires are not available at this time.

b) with the cars horsepower and top-speed (tuv) wheels of only the highest quality.

I might change the tire choice to the winter performance, would love to take the car on a winter autocross course

17" will fit depending on the wheel. I run 17" team dynamics pro race 1.2's as a track setup on my M135i

I should have looked here before asking elsewhere if anyone has tried the Anzio wheels.

Did you get them?

I am going to order them next week. Will let you know.
EDIT: I've changed my mind on Anzio wheels, and went with the BBS SR's in 17" with Blizzaks WS80 tires.

The wheels are special order, and will arrive sometime in mid October, I hope before the temps drop below 35 LOL

I see no recent updates on winter set-up choices.

Tire Rack has wheel & tire combinations posted on their website for 17" staggered, and RWD vs AWD.

I like the BBS SR wheels in 17", with a finish similar to the OE, and the Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3, which gets good ratings from Consumer Reports.

Any other suggestions?

John

Here is my winter setup: 18-inch 225/40 Bremmer Kraft BR-10 with Dunlop Winter 4D. I like thin spokes which make blue M-sport brakes more visible. Because M235i has adaptive suspension it makes even 18-inchers ride comfortably in winter so why not take advantage of this ? Plus you get good looks and improved handling compared to 17inch wheels for not much more money. This being said summer tires still have noticeably crisper handling.
