CCC DVD drive too hot

Has anybody here experienced overheating with the CCC DVD drive?

I am getting the "cannot read DVD" navi screen error when driving in hot weather. When I eject the DVD it is very hot. I'm aware of the DVD laser problems, but mine only misreads when really hot. I cannot hear the CCC fan any more (used to hear it come on and off).

Anybody had this problem and found it was the CCC fan that was the fault?

I was planning on buying both the fan and the rebuilt DVD drive, but maybe I only need a fan? Lots of install help DYI on the internet and you tube, so not worried about that.

pull out the unit with it connected and see if the fan is spinning
