320/328 owners.. What is your factory set service interval?

Hi All,

We seem to be having a problem with BMW in Brazil and I wanted to round up the troops to find out what your factory set service interval is for the 320/328.

In Brazil, some cars are set with 8,000km (about 5k miles), others are set to 12,000 KM (@ 7500 miles) KM.

Worse yet, is that the requested service interval on the car drops dramatically as you drive. The explanation from the dealer is that the car senses how you drive and adjusts the service interval accordingly. To give you an example, my car was set to 12,000KM service interval from the factory. I now have 2600KM on the car and the next service has dropped to 6000km, and I drive like an old lady in the horrific traffic we have here.

I'm not done yet, it gets worse. In Brazil you are required to get the service performed at the dealer or you lose your (only 2 year) warranty. A simple oil & filter change costs about US$600.

So what am I requesting from my BMW brethren? Can you check the last 7 of your vin at http://www.bmwarchive.org/ for this line:

S8KMA
Ölwartungsintervall 12.000 km/12 Monate

That's what mine says. It means service interval 12.000 KM 12 months.

Thanks everyone!!

I think the servicing must be location dependent to account for different climates because mine was set significantly higher than that when I first got it. I'm in the uk and the service indicator was initially set at 18000 miles (not km) or 2 years. (320i).

Like you however due to the condition based servicing this has dropped very quickly and it is now saying after one year of ownership first service is due in 4 k miles.

Mileage over the course of the year is quite low (8k miles approx ) and fair few short journeys so my guess is first service will probably happen around November. / December .

Hope this helps.

Hi Flipside.

I feel with you. I'm also in deep shock about the service interval and prices.
was set to 8.000km but went down to 6.000km. Same explanation as you got.

I'm not sure if the warranty is 1 or 2 years? but when it is over, I will not go to BMW for scheduled service anymore. I rather shoot my **** of.

I'm kind of disappointed of BMW for allowing this kind of bullshit i Brazil. Looks like they have no control of the dealers/division.

My service interval is 15,000km. My oil change interval is 30,000km or two years, which ever comes first. They are not the same thing.

I couldn't bear an OCI at 30,000km, so I paid for my own at the 15,000km service.

Just got my 10k mile service competed, surprised to see it shows the next service in another 6k miles. Does the service-to-service mileage keep decreasing?

No, BMW really likes you. They want you to come by again. Bring your wallet just in case you want to share the love.

have 6.000km on it now, and next service in 4800km...

It's completely ridiculous! I've stopped driving my car as a DD because of this.
Should have bought a ferrari as a DD, I think they have longer service interval.

You can always code the car so it has a longer service interval.

What is it about the climate there that mandates a 12k/12month oil change?

I live in Australia and with its harsh temperatures and climate I would have thought a more frequent oil change than 30k/24 months.

Not 12K oil change.. I've already had it to service before 6k, and now it's saying service again in 4900km.

I would think the climate here is good for the cars, not extreme hot or cold and mostly dry.

I've already considered coding it when warranty (1 year) is over. Just need to find out how.

It looks like identical cars have vastly different service intervals configured by default, and I cannot suppress thinking that it is mostly influenced by BMW and its dealers making money.

In Brasil, Denmark etc where service is not included, they are configured with short service intervals.

An example of the opposite is here in Cyprus where the car includes free service for 5 years or 50000 km, the service interval is set to 20000 km or 2 years.

Hey guys, having really bad issues within the service interval, I have now 19k km and already did 4 oil changes and going to make the 5th one this week, they said the same thing to me, the car senses and bla bla bla...

But there's something wrong, how could a bmw change oil so fast??
I live in brazil and othe consumers are also complaining about these intervals...
I'm pretty pissed of by this.

Also when I start the car and the maintenance km and date show up, the year is like 2000, there is something wrong for sure. almost all of brazillian dealers always try too fool us most of the time and I think this one is not different...
