I was just going to post this.....
http://wot.motortrend.com/1407_2015_...650_lb_ft.html

http://www.caranddriver.com/news/201...-and-info-news

The HP wars are on. Even though the C7 Corvette, Shelby Mustang, Camaro and HellCat - American muscle cars - are arguably different beasts than the upper-echelon vehicles found here, there is no way the likes of M,AMG and others will stand still and let the American machines pass them in the HP wars. More importantly, I am now more curious what the CTS-V number will come in at, as the Germans will be paying attention...

707 is just ridiculous, and as an HP junkie, I hope this has a halo effect - More HP everywhere LOL....

Yup I was going to post this yesterday too, but didn't have a chance.

The next CTS-V should be at least 600hp from the factory, but the trick with the next CTS-V is that I have a feeling it's going to be much lighter than the M5, like maybe even under 4,000lbs. Just take a look at the CTS-V Sport. By the way, I saw my first CTS-V Sport on the road just this past weekend and I gotta say I didn't hate the way it looked. It looked kind of badass from certain angles and there were certain aspects I really liked and maybe even loved, like the side view mirrors.

Anyways, yeah I guess the horsepower wars are never going to be over, but maybe BMW forgot about that? I dunno. I mean the new M4 is rated at only 430hp although we now know in reality it's making about 475hp from the factory on any given day. The next Merc C63 AMG is going to be at least 500hp though, the horsepower wars will continue. Then Audi will follow suit with their next generation RS4/RS5 and so on.

Truth be told I'm not really impressed with 707 horses on tap on the new Hellcat. That car is still an American muscle car which I think is great, but I know it's not really made to compete against certain other segments. Just look at how much that new Hellcat Challenger weighs, like 4,160lbs. It reminds me of the old Fast and Furious rivalry, American Muscle versus Japanese and European Imports, it's a rivalry that will never end, but I love it.

I think these are exciting times we live in.

Call me crazy...but I like it! It also looks like they addressed some of the Challenger's other flaws, its brakes and interior. They are now using 15.4" Brembo rotors up front. The interior seems to have been upgraded (although I would like to see it in person). It will be interesting to see how well it performs.

I'm impressed (just with the sheer number). The stock 700 HP club is an elite group of members. I know all it takes is a huge engine and a blower/turbo, but SRT actually had the balls to produce it.

American muscle cars are historically heavy; that's their modus operandi: Gluttonous beasts with large displacement/hp engines that are animals in the 1/4 mile. 4160, which is lighter than your M5, actually seems a little light to me for that car...

Me either adjust 12% drive-train loss its what.. 622whp and 530wtrq? A little more or less than if have a basic BMS m5 with what I'm betting would be a far less than-able transmission compared to DCT, probably worse ability to put down power and a near equal weight.

Bottom lline its fast and can smoke a lot of things [unless it can't put power down] but for any m5 owner especially one with a tune... This is far from impressive.

Great. You compared a stock car to non stock! Guys can mod the 707 beast and WILL. Just saying.

ok so my lowest dyno number was 555whp and 514wtq stock... So assuming dodge remains consistent they'll have a crappy auto trans, or it'll be driver specific if its manual only... And if its anything like the zl1 it won't be able to put down any kind of consistent power..

I'd still bet money on the m5 stock vs. stock.... That DCT matters, putting power down matters more than an extra 72whp and 20-30wtq [and that's assuming its not higher than 12% loss]

I'm just not impressed with it given what the z06 is looking to do, given what I know a 10 minute job and laptop with the m5 can do.

And if the z06 comes in at 3600-3700lbs that means it'll have 400+lbs on this thing.

It's more like 4400 pounds and the the tires in the back are narrower than my fronts and I don't even have an ///M currently. But, if someone were to put proper tires on this thing (which isn't easy, Dodge didn't make room on the Challenger for it) it could be quick-ish.

exactly lol they can have 70whp and 30wtrq... unless a race is to 200mph [and we get stuck at 155] it wouldn't matter. And if its anywhere near our 4400-4500lbs than its over before it started regardless of the crank numbers being posted.

In the video linked above, the SRT Prez says emphatically that it will be quicker than the Shelby GT500, which is 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and 11.6 sec @ 125.7 mph 1/4 mile. He said it, not me...

But from a drag racing perspective, the DCT is far from a perfect transmission to launch. I predict the 8spd tranny Hellcats with just drag radials will post 10.8s 1/4 mile times . Any way you slice it, that is very impressive. I am not sure why some people just can't give credit or appreciate something else...even if they like what they have better...

I don't think I've seen a stock gt500 run under 12s from the videos I've watched... It has a very hard time putting power down, unless the driver is good.

I'm dumping my m5 lmao been trying to since 3500miles because I got bored with it, but the DCT is very good, and I haven't had any problems with it "racing in mexico "

So its not like I'm some uber fanboy

The 8 speed auto might be a problem. We have to wait and see.
But it's amazing when we can debate which stock 700 hp car is quicker.

Amazing times.

Many magazines report similar numbers - the same magazines that have the M5/M6 at 3.7 and 11.9
