IND Front Grill DIY

Similar to the E9X M3, BMW gave enthusiasts a head start with the elimination of the chrome window trim in favor of their gloss black "shadow line" trim. Unfortunately, BMW did not address the chrome on the front and side grills.

A topic of conversation around the forums have been the delay on the BMW Performance F8X front grill set. All of us at IND are happy to announce that we have found a solution! The F32 4 series shares the same front grill surround as the F8X M3/M4. Utilizing the performance F32 front grill and a little DIY magic you can have a performance grill at half the price.

Available for purchase on our site
http://ind-distribution.com/ind/bran...grill-surround

Tools required"
  • Torx 25 and Torx 30

Step 1:
The front grill set does require partial removal of the front bumper so the first step in the process is to pop the hood.
Step 2:
Looking at the top part of the bumper behind the front grills you will notice a rubber strip. This rubber strip must be removed. Simply start at the end and carefully pull it from the bumper.
Step 3:
With the rubber strip removed you will notice 6 Torx 25/30 bolts. Using the Torx 25/30 drivers unscrew and remove all 6 screws.
Step 4:
To the side of the center partition of the bumper you will notice an additional screw, making this 8 total. Please remove these screws. Removing these outermost Torx screws will provide maximum access to the backside of the front kidney grills.
Step 5:
The front bumper cover is urethane giving it plenty of flexibility. Using your off hand peel the top portion of the front bumper forward and reach with the other hand to unclip the clips behind the front grill.
Step 6:
Now that the front grill is removed you can unclip the center slats from the surround.
Step 7:
All IND grills will ship with the surround removed from the F32 slats. Slats will be included simply because you are buying the grill, but they are not necessary. Now clip the F8X M3/M4 slats into the F32 surround.
Step 8:
Push the front grills into place and reverse the installation. Make double sure to install all screws as well as the rubber weather strip. As always if any member has any questions please don't hesitate to contact us directly.

Ordering tomorrow just to piss off the spouse. He is going to have the strangest credit card bill this month, and I'm completely fine with it! Hint to the rest of you, never ever make fun of the wife's interests, we rock at revenge.

I don't think it is.

This person changed the badge, but there's a flat black portion to mount the badge to that doesn't come off:

That's too bad. I was hoping to denadge the grill. May look a little weird with a black part there by itself. Will iND make a double slat grill without the badge plaque?

I personally was not able to do it, so I took it to EAS out here and Tom and his team did it in literally 2 seconds I was laughing and realized I sucked at DIY and I should prob just save my time and take it to a pro every time lol.

Not sure why BMW has the chrome to begin with.

Totally agree. They made the door sills black, they made the grills on the 335is black. Why they failed to realize we dont want chrome on a performance vehicle is beyond me.

Just a few tips:

1) The bumper doesn't go that far back, but once you pull it back a little, there is a rubber flap inside attached to the support that you can push out of the way

2) to push down on the tabs, do the top ones with a screw driver, easy to do and see once you do 1); to do the bottom and side ones, you need only your fingers, but make sure you push the grill in when pushing down on the tabs (gives it more slack and makes it much easier) and pull once pushed in

Note for IND, the Torx 27 works for the middle ones, but the outside Torx is a different number. I had to use a flat head to get them out since I didn't have the right bit. Please update.
