LSD Question
Hi Guys,
Did a bit of research and realized the 07 feb+ production e92 LSD are welded to the rear axel. My question is if i don't want to spent extra money on retro the core, can i just swap the rear axel with pre feb 07 production and purchase the bolt on ones like Quaife? would the swap be a hassle? or straight forward? Thanks in advance Super |

OBTW, I got the Quaife diff for my OCT 06 production 07 e90 335i and love the predictability and safety that a mechanical diff provides over an open diff. GL with your plan. I believe it would be an outstanding, straightforward choice.

That would be way too much of a hassle, just buy the install kit from **********s or something. It comes with the bolts and new ring gear and shims. All you need is the ring gear, you could buy a whole other diff but you can also just buy the pieces you need for less.

Welded diff = need new carrier or some welding-torch surgery at a minimum.

I emailed diffsonline.com and they said that they sell bolted crown rings and pinion for $900. Not sure if it's a good price but it may be a solution sometimes. I think **********s requires the customer to send it's differential for separation of the crown, etc.
However, I would highly recommend sending the rear axle to wavetrac/quaife/etc. for diff swapping. This way you eliminate as much as possible from the possible unexperienced shop error. |
