Steel > CCB Conversion

Has anyone else ordered and waiting on the CCB kit from BMW?

My order has been placed. Current ETA is 'April'.

Just curious if any of you are doing the swap so *fingers crossed* your absolute beast of a machine quits squealing like a school bus...

No, I haven't. Seems like a big expense to me after the fact. What's the $ damage on that ordering from BMW? I considered it if I could find a clean pre-owned for a good price, but as irritating is the brakes are, I most likely wouldn't swap. I would just swap the entire car for one with CCBs if I just HAD to end the squeal.....

Go ahead and head over to the other thread for advice..... Apparently you can just stomp the brakes every time you drive and come to a stop. They wont squeal if you get the ABS kicking in every time you stop. Sounds like a good option

I would like to do it, but the cost is too prohibitive. Also BMW don't list a kit for the LCI, only pre, not that I imagine there is a difference.

I would be interest to know how hard it is to change the brake booster.

Where did you find the kit for the pre lci? But yeah it's not hard to do the swap if you have the parts honestly I'd look for a wrecked one someone is parting out and get the used set of brakes if they're in good shape

Total BS.

Maybe you had a bad experience with yours, mine are dead silent since the beginning of ownership of the car.

The only moment they make a very light squeak is just after a wash when the discs are wet, drive 50 meters and the noise is gone.

I haven't heard a peep from my CCBs. I'm only 900 miles into having them though. Haven't had to do any aggressive braking so far either.

Here's the kit from BMW. Good idea - but personally I'd rather buy new and, if anything, resell the kit before I sell off the car.

I have the CCB’s - car now has 17k miles - and mine have never squeaked, except after a car wash. That stops after 4 or 5 strong brake pumps. The bigger thing to know about the car wash is for those first 4 or 5 stops your brakes will barely work. It terrified me the first time I blasted out into traffic. When you’re ready for it it’s fine.

I love having no brake dust. Wheels have never ever looked dirty, even for a second.

I know its all based on driving conditions, but any average for lifespan of CCB pads and rotors? Are they about the same as a regular brake system?

This all depends on how you are driving your car.

I spoke about it with the tech at my dealer a few times and after a visual checking - he said that they were like new (my car is approaching 30k miles).

The correct way to know the precise wear of CCB's is to weigh the rotors.

He said that without tracking the car, the lifespan is unlimited.

Based on my experience with a 911 (my previous car with CCBs), I would agree that unless you track often, CCB rotors should last forever, with a caveat. They won't wear, but they are fragile, so you can get unlucky with rock chips, or slip ups when changing wheels. In that case, the rotor can chip or fracture and will need to be replaced for (obviously) big money.

The brakes on my 911 were incredible in every way. They modulated wonderfully, stopped better than anything else I have ever experienced, made no noise, worked well even when cold, etc. The biggest problem I had was when I drove my wife's car and then went back to the 911, I was used to normal braking and ended up doing unintended emergency level braking on the 911 because of the difference in braking power.

The fragility is what I was worried about which is why I didn't order them on my car... sadly I have a knack for attracting that sort of bad luck lol... I mean heck on my f10 right after replacing pads and rotors about 500 miles later had a rock get suck and score the rotor all the way around lol replaced it again and a different rotor had the same fate 😅 imagine that on ccb? Instant regret

I looked in to it with a dealer about a year ago and at that stage the part number wasn't linked to LCI models.

Whoops sorry guys, looks like I flubbed that one. The sticker shock is functionally the same though according to BMW's $14,780 MSRP.

I have them on an E63, F10 and a new F90. They are not noisy, stop on a dime and produce zero brake dust. Would never order a car without them.

You’re full of BS. Having an M5CS and an M5 Comp with CCBs, I know for a fact that they are noisy. Ask any real car guy and they’ll say the same thing—all CCBs are. Porsche brakes even make a little clicking noise as they brake…

They squeak under light to medium brake pressure, under hard pressure they’re quiet until you brake hard consistently like on a canyon or track where they develop a deep groan. Maybe you don’t drive your car enough to actually realize this
