Backfire gone?
Hi everyone
Took the car in a few days ago for a new windshield, oil change and they did a recall. I am assuming there did a software update. Was fine for a couple days .. Today the car is not backfiring or popping on downshifts. Its also not downshifting or holding gears properly even in S3. 2020 M5C. Called the dealer and he is talking to the shop foreman. Any thoughts? |

it can't be fixed without reverting the software back, or an ECU tune with aggressive bubbles effect DME ECU.

2021s are neutered all across the line from M340i to the M5. Even with the M Performance Exhaust, the burbles on the overrun are limited in time/duration and sound.

I just had my update done today at Sterling BMW and while the cracks and bangs are not completely gone, it's definitely noticeably less pronounced. Especially when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. I'm going back tomorrow to see if I can get the old version back

Also in Toronto. I just got a call today about an open recall on my vehicle (2019 M5C) re: Program Control Units (OBD - tank vent valve). Does this description look familiar?

I hear that they also updating cars ECU's with latest software which makes the car way harder to flash tune. And their new system is flagging cars left right and centre right now for tunes....

Ah shit, are they really doing this to 2019 models as well? What did u go to the dealer for? Annual oil change or recall? I assume u didnt just go in for a software update. So they just happened to update the software with the other work being done to your car?

See my note above re: 2019 model - they called me today to schedule an appointment specifically for this. If it's the same ventilation issue that caused the stop order last month, it sounds like it's not a safety item and is only related to emissions. If that's the case, I'm going to cancel the appointment and let them update it at my next scheduled appointment.

On my 2020 M850i the closest thing I have is Sport Plus mode and generally I drive in Sport Individual (suspension on Comfort, transmission on Sport and engine on Sport Plus). I'll do some pure Sport Plus testing to see if I perceive the same transmission issue as in the early days of COVID-19 I drove exclusively in Sport Plus just to get the bang for the buck when I had the opportunity to drive the car. |

They are as there are at least 12 states (last time I looked into it) that have exhaust dBA regulations and hence the theory that BMW is doing it across the board to be compliant. We've been tracking this for months on the 8-series forum which absolutely confirms that it is taking place.
