I will add, though, that my 2020 Comp went in for a full software overhaul less than 2 weeks ago and it did not affect my exhaust sound. |

To be clear, are people experiencing an overall reduction in the db of the exhaust (i.e., how loud it is)? Or did people lose the pops and burbles and bangs from the exhaust?
I just got my 19 M5 Comp back from the dealer after they did the 3 hour software update to fix the backup camera recall here in the states. I still have all my pops/burbles/bangs, etc. BUT, I can't tell if the exhaust has somehow become quieter or not (could just be placebo effect of reading this thread)!!!!

I am bringing in my '19 M5 for the backup camera recall tomorrow (USA). Will report back afterwards in regards to any exhaust changes (hopefully nothing to report!)

Fine, I might have done it once or twice on purpose but 99.8743%, it's now obnoxious... But you are correct... There's zero percent chance of being able to go back to prior software - much like pretty much all other electronics in our lives... |

Those in the US who have had an update and lost the pops, does your service paperwork have a bulletin number by chance? Post the service ticket, If programming was done something should be listed on there as it sounds that factory tune was updated.

In terms of the sound - I would always get a little bit of a burble when I would let off the gas and when I was really ripping on it I would get some nice pops/burbles on upshifts and downshifts. Now I rarely have burbles when I let off the gas (tiny ones that only I can hear), and rarely can get any pops. Both burbles and pops were pretty much on demand before this. After the update the car just feels a little more 'tame'. I've never driven a Camry before... but it feels a little Camry-ish |

you can just email the dealer and have them email you the work ticket for your last visit, everything that was done on the car is documented on there.
I believe previous M models always had an adaptive learning curve as far as driving patterns etc, so if F90 still retains this it would make sense that it might be a bit tame right after a full reprogram to factory settings, can someone confirm this? Now if you had zero pop's or burbles of any kind that might be a different story.. but back to the topic, i suggest checking your service ticket first to see exactly what was done, it should all be documented. |

You can all breathe a sigh of relief. Pops and bangs are still there - to my ears they sound unchanged! Not louder, not softer, no more/no less of them. Just the same. Bonus - now my tire pressures are correct (33-34 PSI) and the display no longer shows crazy high recommended pressures (41-44 PSI). In fact, it no longer shows ANY recommended pressures. I imagine the "fix" for the problem was to get rid of the car's abnormal set-point recommendations altogether. On the car reset issues people have mentioned: The only items I saw reset were the trip odometer and my M1 & M2 settings. My preset seating positions, radio presets, climate settings, etc were all saved. Hope this helps everyone sleep well tonight (at least US residents).

So results for European Union is here:
I want to upgrade max speed limit with M Drivers package, I asked to BMW.DE and now I have the answer. Officially I lose pops because of Europian Union law. Thats it. Now I save cca 3000 EUR / 3300 USD for it. After 1 year my insurance will over so then I unblock max speed for less money a save my pops. Thanks EU

I hope all you guys experience the same.... Maybe it's because I have a very early '18, so this made it up to snuff w/ the '20s?! When the 18s first came out, there was a lot of chatter here about the lack of exhaust note in comparison to the AMGs, etc, in which I was a little disappointed as well....
