M5 CS Wheel Refinish
I've only had my car for, what 3 weeks now? And I woke up this morning to find that I had a flat tire. So I took the car into discount tire to get looked at and they found a puncture and repaired it, all is good. I didn't have to spend $400-$500 on a new tire.
I walk out to my car when they are all done and check out the wheel and sure enough, they scratched the finish. In three spots. Funny because I was literally talking to the guy inside for like half an hour about the CS and he commented numerous times on how much he loves the wheels. The car is brand new, 453 miles on it so to have this happen is really frustrating. Anyway, they've offered to repair the finish and i have a meeting with them and their guy tomorrow morning to see if he can do it. They did say, however, if they can't refinish it to be perfect they will replace the wheel so good on them for that. I'm coming here because I want to get thoughts on if this wheel color can even be refinished to look perfect or they are just wasting their time and I should just ask for a new wheel. I'll admit I know nothing about wheel refinishing and the process, so maybe the guy can in fact make it look brand new again. |

If it were me, I’d want the new wheel for the fact the car is 3 weeks old. Whoever they use may in fact do a great job, but I wouldn’t want to worry about the finish in 6,12,24 months down the road knowing it’s not original etc. You’re car is pretty special, ask for the wheel. Then you also have a full size spare if you choose to do so.

I think it’s far from being an ass asking for a new wheel, especially if you’re going to be eyeballing it constantly if you get it refinished. If they want to keep the other wheel, then let them refinish it and sell it or do whatever if they choose to. In any event, maybe find a more suitable tire place for the future…I’m sure you’ve thought that already. Good luck with the CS though! Awesome car right out of the box.

It's not being an ass, it's "I have a limited production car yall fucked up" say they even get close to the finish, you don't know what's happen later or if they can match the finish properly in the first place. I'd just ask for a new wheel, offer to give them the old one if they want it and call it a day.

I called the shop just now and spoke to the manager, the one who help me when I was there. Apparently to do anything beyond a simple repair they have to go through their claims dept. to get it approved. Seems stupid that we have to do all this now when all I needed was a simple tire fix, they caused the damage from carelessness and now I have to go through all this and possibly get it denied from their claims dept.
I have to wait for a call from them. Guess I'll report back what happens next. |

This is why I'm so frustrated with DT about these wheels, you'd think they would make sure they wouldn't do this. |

I'm sorry man, that is a total bummer, it could have happened anywhere too, you would think in 2022 that tire machines would be very careful with mounting and dismounting but they are not. Even the robotic Hunter automatic machine that is $17,000 damages the edges just like you have. I don't understand why it's so difficult to mount and discount a tire carefully...
This will be their first time refinishing the wheel, so most likely they'll attempt it and you'll demand a new wheel, but play their game and see where it goes. Unfortunately, this stuff is gonna happen. We are all going to need new tires at some point. Chris

No idea how easy/hard it would be to actually get the paint though. I'm just living with the cosmetic damage for now.

I tried for at least four months straight to find this out. Dealership forwarded me emails back and forth from plant in Germany that said there wasn’t a code for it. I ended up physically taking an emblem to the shop to match it.

Re-finishing wheels isn't rocket science, but even a good shop can sometimes not get it 100% OE.
I would just push for a new wheel.

100% guarantee it won't look new, it will be good from 5ft though.
I bought a GT350 new, drove it home 3 miles, noticed one of the wheels had a number of small scratches, must have happened when they took it off the truck. The dealer, being a Ford dealer, refinished it, while it was better, I could still see each location of the original scratch. With that said, 9 out of 10 people would never be able to see it. If I owned the dealership I would have replaced it, no questions asked…but anyone who has bought a new Ford knows them paying for the refinish was probably a stretch for them! Best part was I told my 6 year old the wheel had a chip in it, for about 9 months she asked me how a chip got in the wheel…a chip as in a potato chip. So I'm sure the wheel can be made to look acceptable, but I would be shocked if they could get it back to perfect, especially with that color. |

Discount Tire scratched 2 of my wheels on my CTS-V when I owned it. They sent a mobile wheel repair guy to my house and he took care of it. Came out great.
Sorry to hear about your car, though! Hope it gets resolved to your satisfaction.

The CTS-V is such an awesome car. I had a gen 1 and 2. Loved them. Almost bought this latest gen over the m5, just wasn't a fan of the exterior and interior styling. |
