Weird ticking sound from the engine

Hey guys, my LCI M5c has a weird tick at idle. Almost sounds like a diesel engine. Is this what your cars sound like?

TIA

Weird. My f10 m5 and f85 had a subtle tick from vanos l, but this is a lot louder. The sound on the video is not perfect, but you can hear it in person better.

I'd say it seems way louder than any bmw I've ever owned including my M8 GC.

Take it to the dealership asap

I had something similar to the sound you recorded. I took mine to a local BMW dealership and they thought it was something in the valve covers and wanted $4500 to check. I called the BMW dealership I bought the car from and they replaced the turbo exhaust valve.

Its the high pressure fuel pump. They are noisy. There is a bulletin about it. Comes and goes, usually goes away when warm.

Mine makes the same noise too and I was also thinking it sounded like a diesel. I have under 2 months left of my warranty so I am also interested if dealers did anything to "fix" this.

Mine sounds identical. It’s loud and goes away when warm. My car has 36K miles. Brought this to dealership attention. They have brought it up to Bmw NA attention but said it’s normal. As much as I don’t like it it seems like that it is what it is. Someone here mentioned that those are loud high pressure fuel pumps that made that sound and that is exactly what it is. I’d just bring this to the dealership attention, make sure they will put this in writing and drive.

Which Motul did you go with ? I will give it a try at my next oil change. I use Liqui Molly with my AMG and I like it a lot. I used Motul 300V back in the day when I had my Ducati motorcycle but it was esther based lubricant so not for extended use. I am wondering how would this help with fuel pump noise.

I remember someone mentioned that the S63 engine sounds like a tractor and it’s normal. My 2019 had this sound and so does my 2022.

Is there an updated high pressure fuel pump revision to eliminate the noise? It seems like some people have it and some have it less or not at all.

ticking

I guess I was just late to the party I could not find a thread about this and after posting found this one sorry.
Ive owned 2018 M5 f90 since delivered to dealership. Never noticed probably for the first half of the year of ownership until it got colder now makes noise loud at start up but constant everyday does get quieter with warm up but still notable enough to notice and annoy. Dealership did replace with 2 new high velocity fuel pumps and did nothing same (ass) before. They say normal according to BMW regional rep but still looking into it along with multiple other complaints that never get resolved which i have read about throughout the forum by many.
Maybe someone can help ?
I’ll try and attach a sound clip? but its already out there cause i found it after posting this one
sounds like a diesel
until you fade the brakes then you cant hear it over them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hard to tell from just hearing on a phone-recorded video, but don't think mine sounds like that (2019). I did have an e92 M3 which sounded similar - I took it to the dealer to query the noise and he said it was normal - had about 10k on the clock at the time. That M3 ran like a dream and never had any issues fwiw.
