Prospective changes for MY2022?

I know this is a really premature question, but I'm curious what the board thinks about possible updates to the next model year for the M5C. I'm not doing a lot of driving these days (working from home for who knows how long...), so I could definitely hold out for a 2022 to be delivered in early Aug. I'm guessing that there may be a new color or two, maybe more choice in interior leather/trim (true carbon fiber?) and possibly laser lights (though I've read that this is subject to changes in regulation outside of BMW's control).

Thanks in advance!

I would not expect any major changes Post LCI, at least this was the case with the F10 M5 platform.

The Jahre 30 was a Special Edition F10 M5 but I don't recall a whole lot else in terms of changes.

Possibly some of the minor changes you mention in your post.

Thanks! Helpful to have the F10 comparison.

Hey brother! You planning on moving into a 21 or 22 when your lease is up? Mine is up in December so I'm thinking 22 potentially if I stick with the M5.

I will more than likely move to a 21/22. My lease is up in August and will more than likely spec a 22'.

I’d be surprised if we see any new colors. This LCI is one of the bigger mid cycle refreshes we’ve seen on the M5. I believe ‘23 is the last MY on the F90 so changes going forward will likely be minimal.

I recall there was a change to the fuel management system on the 2015 F10 M5. I had a 2014 and a 2016 M5 and it was easy to notice the change. The 2014 was the LCi year. Also they made some options standard.

Really nothing new for people looking to purchase around the time if a model year change. I think anyone in that situation would ask those questions regardless of the car.

Yes - I realize how ridiculous the question is given the LCI just came out. Just trying to plan out the timing of my purchase relative to the production cycle!

I think maybe laser light if it gets approved here in the US, a pure metal edition color like in the F10 M5 or new wheels for the competition package. Other than that, I don't see any notable changes post LCI like we saw in the previous generations of M5. I was really hoping they would embed the navigation screen into the dash like the new 3 series or 8 series with the LCI but that didn't happen.

Again, who has written confirmation that there will even be a 2022 F90 M5?

Why would there not be a 2022 year model?

Do think there would be the slightest chance that BMW would create an LCI model and then discontinue it one year later?

In most M5 life cycles they only do 4 years. With the F90 M5 we have had 2018, 19, 20 and 2021. I know there's going to be a M5 CS, that does not necessarily mean there will be a 2022 M5 Competition. I hope BMW would chime in about this.

I believe the F10 M5 was 5 years (2012-2016).

So you're thinking in '24 we will have a new M5? Would love that, my lease would end by the time that comes around

Not so fast. The new 5 series might be released in 2024, but the M5 usually lags a year behind. Might be 2025 if I had to guess.

Agree. The M5 usually takes a 1 year hiatus between generation change. The G30 was announced in late 2016 as a MY2017. The F90 M5 came a year later announced 2017 as MY2018.
