Kidney grill removal
Does anyone know how to remove the kidney grills on an LCI competition? I was looking at pre LCI instructions and they show the how to remove the grills separately but I noticed on the LCI that both grills are in one piece.

On pre LCI they're held in by clips. So you take a flathead screwdriver to push the clips out on the top and out she comes. I imagine it would be pretty much the same method? Just pop the hood and check for the clips.

I was able to push the clips in from the top but I felt like it's held in tight by something else on he buttom, I was hesitant and didn't want to break anything so I put it back together until I get some more insight.

yes, it can be a bit tough, give it a pull. you won't break it. Just did it a few weeks ago. Can put some painter tape around the grilles to protect the paint, bumper, etc.

Please update this once you get it figured out! I have a black grill on order for my LCI non-comp as I preferred the ride of the non-comp as a daily. Just getting rid of the chrome asap.

so when you push those big tabs in, should be noticeably movable on the top. However, there are clips on the bottom and sides as well. You don't want to pull too hard, as you may break. But, you can wiggle a bit and feel those clips move, then give it a bit of a pull. I do suggest the painter table around that i mentioned, don't want to scratch. The same process when you put the new grille back in.

good point. pre LCI. I imagine they are similar, but I have seen other grilles have different clip locations. Let's see some pics when you get it, We can compare and figure it out.

Update
I finally got a chance to give this a second try, so I used painters tape on the bumper like you guys suggested, pushed the tabs from the top and gave it a good yank. It came off
Btw the two kidney Grills on the LCI are one piece. I added some photos

I swapped the chrome grill on my LCI to the black one. Pushed down on the top clips with a screw driver, wiggled it out on top slightly, then worked on the sides and a nice firm yank got the bottom ones out. Just be careful as the front camera is in there, just need to undo the two tabs to take the camera out and then put into the new grill by just pushing into place. Car looks so much better with the black grill then the chrome, though wife liked the chrome one better haha.

I guess the chrome is simply taste. Honestly, i blacked out all of the chrome bits simply because of the bluestone color and the black wheels. If they were the bi colored wheels, i likely wouldn't have.

Have a non-Comp LCI on the way. Can anyone recommend a place to order black kidney grills? Are you just ordering the Comp grills or is there another option? Thanks!

I got my car on Saturday. Just had the kidney grill surrounds and lower rear bumper above the diffuser wrapped today. Was easy for the wrapper to do; no need to remove the parts. Why not just wrap your kidney grill surrounds?

I just swapped my base M5 chrome kidney grill with a IND black one. Only took 15 minutes to do the swap.
In my case the two bottom outside plastic clips broke off but since it was a replacement swap it isn't an issue. If you plan on reusing the kidney grill you need to be careful not to break the bottom clips. |

The LCI Comp has updated softer and more comfortable suspension, is it still noticeably harder than a LCI base?
