Looking to put in a stealth laser/radar detector/jammer setup on my LCI. Any recommendations for setups that work well and placement of control unit(s)?

Thinking of ALP + RCM and build the controller into the panel to the right of the shifter.

Weird I was about to put up a similar post. Are detectors/jammers still a thing? Back in the day it was Passport. I know about Waze, are any devices any more effective? Thanks.

Depends how you drive I use Waze regularly, but lots of units go unreported, and you never know who you pass along the way.

I used to have a really nice stealth setup on my e92, so trying to do something similar.

Is stealth a concern because electronics are illegal in some states? I'm really out of the loop on these haha.

Radar is legal almost everywhere I believe, but jammers are really a stare by state thing. Honestly less of a concern about getting caught with the jammers, and more of an esthetics thing... I really like the OEM look.

I'm with you there. Who are the main players? I should start doing research before my car gets here.

For laser defense, ALP is the leader because it's the only system that reliably counters the most modern threats like VPR guns. Placement and installation of the equipment is CRITICAL if you want your system to work. Hiding sensors in aesthetically pleasing locations rather than the recommended locations will mean the difference between a system that works or doesn't.

For radar, you must first decide if you want an installed stealth system or a window mount unit.

Escort and Radenso are leaders in the radar market, and definitely worth considering. Just don't waste your time with the Escort laser defense, it's not up to the standard of ALP.

The new Valentine 1 is highly rated for a window unit, but seems to have issues with BMW cars featuring the gesture control. Radenso has been working on a fancy new window unit called Theia, but it's still not available and I don't think there is a definitive release date.

Stay away from K40 like the plague. They are junk.

Have you seen any nice stealth placements for the controller unit (or at least flush)?

Not in the M5.

I have an ALP in my Mercedes, but we did a major stereo installation there and the ALP control pad was flushed into a custom center console armrest we built for that. Probably not something most people here would be attempting.

That's sort of what I'm looking for See my pic above from my last setup. Looking for that kind of quality. I don't want to sacrifice the wireless charger (otherwise that would be perfect), so leaning towards cutting into the panel near rite shifter (bottom right). So far that's the beat option I can see.

Here is what we did in my Merc.
It's a custom arm rest with iPad Pro, controls for the new stereo and the ALP all flushed in at your fingertips.

Really nice work!! Did you essentially sacrifice the arm rest?

No. We removed the top section and kept it so I can return the car to original condition.

For those of you running the ALP, are you using two or three sensors up front? Any suggestions on where to tap in to the car for switched power? Thanks!

Best setup will be two heads and the TX so 3 total sensors up front.

To counter the most modern threats, 3 sensors are required. And you must have ALP. No other laser system works. Period.

The preferred setup is two Rx sensors and 1 Tx sensor. To use this arrangement, the sensors MUST be inside of the kidney grills. The Tx has to be near the center of the car.

If you cannot install in the kidneys, then your alternative setup is 3 Rx sensors. This setup will not protect as well as the above alternative, however.
