What is the advantage to having the 8HP76, as I assume my 18' has the 75, faster shifts ? more TQ hold ?, thanks.

Yes, agreed, be thankful that they didn't give it the abortion grille from the 4-Series.

Don't find a lot about it. Most info is coming from Alpina that dedicates some paragraphs to it. What I read:

First 3rd generation version of the 8HP.
Aluminium transmission oil sump that optimizes cooling.
Can handle more torque (e.g. B5/7 have 800Nm).
Revised mechatronics (solenoids) for brisker and faster shifts.

Front bumper needs work. Looks very old school, much prefer the front bumper (not grill) of the m3/m4 because it looks more aggressive.

We now have 4 different colors to choose from for caliper colors. Red, black, blue and Gold if you go with ceramic.

But you can't get Imola red paint on an M5 unless you shell out $5000. Why BMW? Doesn't make any sense to offer Motegi Red (free) and Aventurin Red ($1950) when those reds are not as exciting as Imola.

Isn't the point of painting an M5 red or blue to make it stand out and "pop"? Out of the available reds, I'd lean towards Aventurin.

Very unusual bait and switch tactics which I've never before seen from BMW. Is this an attempt to divert the latest Audi RS6 buyers given that bright red is the iconic Audi RS color?
Both reds are killer, I am not usually a red person

Or because the lights are smaller makes grill look bigger?

I dig it. . . .

However. . . I agree with most on design elements like the lights just not feeling BMWish, etc.

The problem here is BMW is too closely following design cues of so many other manufacturers as pointed out already. Pushing this "aggressive" look, I feel this car will QUICKLY become dated looking over the next few years while the Pre-LCI keeps to BMW heritage a bit more. I almost think they should have reversed the two!!

I think it looks great.....but let's be honest, the F90 in general is awesome. Hardly anyone will notice a difference in real life unless you own a M5.

People keep bashing the aggressiveness, or lack thereof, on the M5. This isn't an M3 or M4.....where the target driver is some 20 year old kid. This is an executive business sleeper sedan. That's the point. It's why I feel some colors of the M5 Comp have just too much going on with all the black pieces (like alpine white)......it just looks too "modded" or too M3 "targeted".

M5 thoughts.

Overall the car has a clean update. The grills are actually appropriate and tasteful unlike the new m3/M4 nonsense.

However, this is an M car so i wish they would have leaned towards a little more aggressive distinction. Hood, styling from side so more distinct side lines , angled downward a touch. The wheel flairs imo need to more pronounced to show a wider more aggressive stance. Maybe a little E92ish or E46 look. There just isn't enough difference between the M550i or M Sport 5 series. Don't get me wrong it's awesome but lets make an M car look like an M car instead of just adding more horsepower. Just my 2 cents. It's still a bad ass car!

So, would competition suspension actually be better than the base model now with the dampeners from the M8?

Also believe it's an error, which is pretty common for these press releases, there's always errors and oversights I notice even just as an enthusiast on each launch. BMW doesn't have their brightest people writing press launches or editing/analyzing photos of the cars they use.

The fact they use an individual Imola Red launch color with heavy black cast wheels on the competition car is simply weird to me. Just show off one of the new standard colors you've added... Where are the pictures of the standard car with the chrome grills? Bigger pictures of the *new* cast wheels you're offering... where are the official press pictures of the m-performance parts? Why not offer an explanation of why we aren't getting laser lights in the US? At least explain its because of government regulations and not that you're just hiding something.

Although this LCI M5 looks sharp as a whole, it's not a good sign that BMW ditched the corona lights entirely! I could mildly appreciate their experiment with the squared coronas, but now they threw all this overboard. Why?

Think the LCI tail lights look sweet. From the pics, I can't discern any difference in shape to the superseded F90 tail lights. Does anybody know for certain whether the LCI tail lights can be retro fitted?
