2020 1200 mile service

Had my 1200 mile service done on my 2020 M5 and they only changed the rear axle oil with Hypoid oil G4. Service manager stated that 2020 M5's do not require front axle oil change. He claims only 2018 and 2019 require front axle oil changes. Is something different with the 2020 front axle?

I just had my service done, checking the invoice I can see what looks like Hypoid oil x2 which make me think it was done on both axles.

My invoice looks the same except no charges listed, each line charge says warranty, hope they did not charge you. The rear axle takes 2 quantity of G4 Hypoid axle oil. the front axle would take a quantity of 2 G2, not G4 Hypoid axle oil. It appears 2020 M5 does not get front axle G2 oil change at the 1200 mile service. Wonder why!

From my experience, they don't do the front axle on the break-in service!

According to service department, they changed the front axle oil on all 2018 and 2019 M5's that had the 1200 mile service done, cannot tell me why not required on 2020 M5.

Just got back from the breakin service. They only changed the rear diff oil and the engine oil. They said BMW no longer requires front axle diff oil changed on 2020 models but didnt have a specific reason why. He speculated on it not being beneficial and potentially causing issues but didnt offer anything concrete or any specifics. I didn't press much since it seems like this is common for all 2020s based on forum posts here.

Not gonna sweat it.

Wonder if will cause issues on 2018 and 2019 model years that had front axle oil changes. Does the front axle ever need an oil change?

I have a 2018 and they changed both at the 1200 mile service. I remember being nervous as hell because everyone was posting issues with noises, clicking etc. in the steering after the service. Turns out some dealers were not tightening the stiffening plates that had to be loosened for access. I think there might have been a few other issues. Perhaps with a few years of data under their belt BMW decided the juice wasn't worth the squeeze when it came to changing the front🤷🏽
