Can someone explain why there is no flex-fuel tune options
There isn’t a single thread I can find through google or the search on here. All I see is one paragraph on a website for tunes that says the v8 in these cars simply can’t run flex fuel. Why not? Every other bmw engine that is used for tuning has a flex fuel tune at this point. I was really debating between an m5 and g80 m3 but if the g80 is the only one that can run a flex fuel tune then my decision is easy. Just wondering why. Because I’m not trying to calculate the exact amount of gallons I need for my tune, especially if I go on a road trip somewhere

forgot to mention that p3cars has an ethanol sensor that works on the f90, any of those companies could offer a flex fuel tune as well as a ots e30+.

A flex fuel tune has the ethanol sensor incorporated into the tune and varies timing and boost based on the ethanol content. Have not yet seen a flex fuel tune; just fixed E content tunes or the statement that you can add some E and your ECU will adapt — but such adaption is within the limits of the tune. There are companies that sell flex fuel kits, like AFD, but they font change the boost or timing targets and I don’t know whether there is a kit for the F90. Just an ethanol sensor alone does little bother than reassure you that the blending from the pump that you think you did to E30 or E40 really is E30 or E40.
Last year, Dinan claimed it had an E85 tune that required no special fuel injection hardware like bigger injectors or a higher capacity pump or cams that drove the pump higher. It claimed it was tuned for E60 so it was safe even if the pump was less than E85, as apparently it often is. But it is not flex fuel and you are advised to drain your gas to ensure you get the right mix. And you must flash back to a pump gas tube for 91/93. Have read nothing of this E85 tune since then. |
