Stock Burbles

Hi

ive only recently had the car a for a few weeks, and wow, its so freakin' quick!

i went to a stage 1 tune, and have uninstalled it to test something out...

however I dont get burbles on my downshifts anymore now im back to stock. i have to blip the throttle to get any kind of burbles. before I went stage one i always used to get the burbles on the downshifts too without blipping the throttle.

has anyone experienced this? i believe adaptations got reset as a part of the tune; does the car need to adapt before i get my burbles on downshifts back?

im running a 2018 pre LCI with no GPF.

Thanks in advance

Mine barely does it anymore since the latest BMW sw update. It flashed the DME according to my sw coder, Vic.

Just another reason to refuse updates for as long as possible.

Mine does it nicely on the overruns, I have the standard DME firmware the car came with.
I just don't seem to get them downshifting using the paddles only.

Just wondered if someone had the same issue when tuning back to stock

I've got an updated 2022, and I have no issues with the burbles. Y'all are in sport plus right?

Ok looks like it was the ASD I coded out through Bimmercode!

this confused me, as i was getting burbles and pops on a throttle blip, but nothing on a downshift with the paddles. I was told ASD could/would remove ALL burbles if coded out incorrectly.

coded ASD back in, and now i have burbles and pops on downshifts.

im happy again

Glad you figured this out, but I must say this absolutely throws fuel on the fire that the M5’s engine noise(s) are “fake.”

Or is it throwing fuel in the exhaust

im not sure if the ASD simulates burbles, ive had it set pretty obnoxious in my tune settings to test it out, so not sure how complex this fake noise is.

unfortunately the inside of the car is so well insulated i cant tell whats real or fake nowadays tbh

I've decided I like the fake sound even if it's fake. At least we know the engine is actually powerful and so this is not the same as a fart can on a Civic. But it is walking the line.

In fairness even the Cadillac Blackwings have fake sound too. It's the modern trend. Just getting us ready for EVs when the only sounds will be fake.

I kind of agree with this, actually — even if my previous comment may have suggested otherwise. Or I should say, at least, I go back and forth. Controversial opinion, I know. I did have ASD BimmerCoded out at one point, but I’m back to having it enabled now. Having my valve flap controllers forced in the open position for the last week or so has helped a tiny bit with sound, too.

My rationale is the same. I’ve got a 617hp V8 under the hood (plus whatever RaceChip on Map 7 adds), not a VTEC Honda four pot. It’s not like we’re frontin’.
