I have a 21 M5C that is my DD. I installed the AS4 in Jan 22 instead of dedicated winters and they have been great. Here in NJ driving through light snow and rain with no issue and of course no concern with cold temps. I have left them on over the summer and into the fall and so far very solid. 8k miles on them as of today. Will leave them on over the upcoming winter and then decide what to do next in March/April.

I just got a set of AS4's put on at my local Costco today, your experience is exactly what I'm hoping to get out of these tires, thanks!

I went with AS4's too. I took them out in the snow today with -5 F Temps & snow-packed roads. I did a couple of practice stops starting from 20 to 50 mph with brake, turn & stop then turn, brake & stop. Threshold braking wasn't very exciting.....
They weren't like Hakkas or Blizzacks, but the car did what I told it to do. This car isn't a DD so I'm satisfied I can get home safely no matter the weather.

I’m running AS4s on mine now and love them. I haven’t had any snow to experience yet, but cold wet weather has been fine. They look great and handle likewise. I could honestly see some leaving on all year and being perfectly content

Do any of you run AS on 789M wheels? I am looking on the tire sites and they have the likes of the PS AS/4 for the car but not tagged as Original Equipment/OE — so I am assuming this means they are not Star marked? I know given the choice of Star marked vs not for the same tire to get the Star ones.. what if not an option? Ill advised? Doesn’t matter? Suck it up and get another set of wheels? 😟

If you are using all seasons then maximum performance is not your goal, so why worry about Star marking? I have regular PS AS4 on stock wheels for cold weather use and don’t worry.

If you leased your car, though, you should return it with less than half worn BMW approved tires or you will be charged for the same.

Well they always warn non star marked can screw up AWD/X-Drive however unlikely it may be. Service manager at my dealership says they’ll install non star marked but if something messed up with XDrive warranty would likely be denied.

The dealer’s claim that non star marked tires will screw up the x-drive would not worry me because I don’t believe it. Do non star marked snow tires screw up the drive? Is there a single report of an F90 with non star marked tires suffering an x-drive problem attributed to the tires?

Dealers may try to deny warranty claims based on non-approved parts. That is an old game. But they have to prove the failure was due to the parts. Seems like that would be hard when they sell snow tire packages without star markings.

I don’t disagree but it’s what gives me pause. Maybe I’ll just order the PS AS/4s and hope for the best. 😀 Looks like DTD has them. TireRack OOS on the fronts.

If you are beholden to your dealer, it is probably safest to play their game. I stay as far away from dealers as I can — I usually mod my cars while they are still under warranty, do my own work, and keep cars a long time. Maybe I have been lucky and maybe cycling through fewer cars has reduced my risk.

I did have an electric coolant pump fail about 10 years ago on my wife’s car while it was under warranty and let BMW fix that. And I did let Porsche do free servicing.

I am beholden to no man! I just like to take input and feedback and then decide. I just checked with the dealer for a price comparison and opinion but was also considering them more than normal as I assume they take greater care not smashing into CCBs. Maybe I am over thinking it but until these forums I had never worried that a shop would scratch up the rims when swapping tires either. After seeing local shops completely fk up people's brand new rims this is now on my top list of concerns when swapping tires. Now I lie awake at night thinking of all of these things.

CCB would worry me and I am pretty careful, but I don’t presently have any CCB cars. My guess is that most shops that chip one of your fancy rotors by accident or carelessness won’t say anything to you and it will be a while before you or some other shop notices the damage and no one will accept responsibility.

I trust my local tire shop but bring my wheels in when they are off the car. I have known the manager for over a decade and probably spent $20k on tires. I have changed tires myself before but have not made it a practice since I rarely have access to a machine. My brother in law just bought a fancy one so maybe I will do a set myself again.

I ran AS4 in 20” stock sizes this winter from November until now. They were fine — better than snows for ride and handling. Will be putting the summer wheels back on when I am back into the US next week. Summers PS4 are better handling but not dramatically.

I ended up with the PS AS4s too and still have them on. They have ridden decent. I am contemplating some HRE or AL13 wheels now and will prob put PS4s on those and make the stock wheels my late fall/winter wheels (I think). Just struggling about whether or not I want to lower my car .. which impacts wheel ordering decision since I don’t want to run spacers.

I lowered with H&R M5 springs. My wider summer wheels don’t need spacers but I have a set I can use for the stock wheels. I used them last year but can’t remember whether I used them again this year. I’ll find out when I put the summers on.
