Part # for the m-sport black leather shift knob?
Tried doing a search and couldn't come up with it. Is there a good place online to buy oem parts besides circlebmw?

Bought my leather m six speed from bimmerbum.com. Just e-mail Ed Mckernan at bimmerbum@hotmail.com and ask him to send you the weighted short shifter knob. Ask for some photos. I paid 63.99 plus $8 shipping. It's on eof the best interior upgrade you can do. I hated the stock knob. It is too tall! :rocks:

xyz, What dealership in TO ? I assume most would have access to the part, so I guess its a silly question.
More importantly, how difficult is it to switch out the stock shifter for the weighted knob ? |

I generally don't mention commercial businesses by name in public forums so will send you a personal message with the name of the dealership. |

This is the knob for the E46 but you say you got it on the E90? I can get this knob for 55.00 USD

That looks like the e46 one. Definately different than the picture posted above.

It makes sense that the E46 knob is being phased out since the car has been superceded by a new model. The E90 M knob should be showing up on this side of the ocean soon to replace it. However, judging from jwocky's photo, the new M knob seems to be different cosmetically. It appears to be made with grey and black leather instead of all black like the E46 knob. Of the two, I think I like the all black one better but I guess it is a matter of personal preference; I would really, really rather have a round knob like the Mini's. I actually checked if a Mini knob would fit my E90 but it would not. For those worried about the weight, I noticed that the Mini knob is much heavier than the BMW 3 knob and the Mini has been around long enough now that any gearbox issues that are going to show up on account of a weighted shift knob would have shown up. I think that arguments against weighted knobs are bogus and unconvincing, at least the one that I have seen. |
