is this a good price for detail, paint correction, and ceramic coat?

a local mobile detailer quoted me $800 to fully detail the car, correct the paint using meguiar’s products, and ceramic coat using mosh q2.

is this a good deal? i’ve never gotten a quote for ceramic coating before.

It's horribly low for ceramic, which makes me think it's a backyard warrior that thinks Armorall is a top product.

AFAIK, Meguiar's doesn't make professional ceramic. He's probably going to spray some Meguiar's quick detailer ceramic topper on.

A professional ceramic is worth every penny, but has to be done right. Should cost around $1,200 and will include a multistep paint correction and a wheels off ceramic application with something like Ceramic Pro or Kamikaze.

Don't waste the $800.

Super low price to have someone learn on your car or it's someone doesn't value their time as the tools and supplies to do a proper detail, paint correction and ceramic aren't cheap.
Either way, it would be a hard pass for me.

A proper job around the Toronto area will cost in the neighborhood of 1.5-2k+.

I mean if it's worth entertaining, do your due diligence. Ask him lots of questions and look at some pictures of other cars he has done. Does he have some high end cars in his portfolio? Are people with Porsche's, etc. trusting him with their car.

I am all for saving a buck, but it you get ceramic done right, it will pay for itself in terms of ease to clean, no swirls, resistant to more swirls, beading, etc. Should last three years (the 5+ year claims are garbage).

Here is mine shortly after a Kamikaze coating, my car was actually covered with dust and pollen here:

The other red flag is "mobile detailer". You can't do ceramic right with a mobile detailer. It takes a day to cure after application and needs to be kept inside.

i reached back out to him and pressed him on a few things.

he advertises as mobile to get more business and will come to your house for a wash and interior detail. for things like paint correction and ceramic, he works out of his shop and keeps the car.

i’ll make sure to ask a bunch more questions to sus out the situation. i won’t be doing this for a little while. i have a few parts coming in which will be getting painted along with my front bumper and i think i read you have to wait 60(?) days after fresh paint for ceramic coating.

Got it, yeah, you are getting your bumper sprayed, right? Take your time and get some quotes. The good thing about ceramic is that it is never too early or too late to do it. It just makes drying the car so effortless as we get to the nice weather where washing your car is part of the weekend routine..

yessir front bumper needs a repaint badly. i’m gonna have them fill the license plate holes as well.

waiting on my rear diffuser and spoiler to come in and i’ll get them all painted at the same time.
