Pre-LCI steering wheel facelift
After driving my good friend’s g82 with the newer style steering wheel controls (same as the LCI F90) I had to update mine.
Super easy install that takes around 30 minutes with the right tools and some patience. No coding required - plug and play. These look and feel far better than the pre-LCI buttons. Below are the part numbers for my car: 2019 M5C with S5AT Driving assistance Plus and heated wheel. - buttons needed : 61318053151 * $265.38 - Steering wheel trim piece : 32308094049 * $88.82 Prices are from www.getbmwpartsnow.com and they were reasonably quick to ship the parts. Hope this is helpful guys. Cheers! Last edited by AustinM4AlpineM5; 04-21-2023 at 07:56 PM.. Reason: Pics |

Do you know if you can update the buttons like you outlined above, and replace the steering wheel with an LCI steering wheel? I have a 2019 M5C as well.

Thanks to @AustinM4AlpineM5 I decided to do this upgrade too. His part numbers are correct and getbmwpartsnow was the best price I could find too. I received the parts in 3 days and did the install last night. I thought it would be about 1/2 hour but it took me 1:12 from start to finish because I could not figure out how to get the old trim piece off correctly. The 3 screws on the back were easy but there are clips just below the M1/M2 buttons that you cannot see and clips along the top that you can see but I was not sure exactly what shape they were in order to open them. You will need a very small T9 torx bit for the little screws that hold the controls to the faceplate. I had one in my computer fixing bit kit but none of my "regular" torx/bit sets went this small.
I am attaching pictures here so people can see what I am referring to and be prepared if you try this yourself. You can see that I ended up breaking the clips below the M1/M2 buttons and even seeing them now I am not sure what I could have done differently. I also had difficulty removing the clip that goes from the wiring harness to the button module and I do not know why. The reason for this project for me was to get the forward/back buttons on the right side control and it works just as expected. You can scroll through your presets using them and when listening to music go forward or backwards. I know with the old control you can roll forward/back and press to click but this is WAY better to quickly go up/down the list. |
