Carbon ceramic brakes squeal / noise
Hey guys car has CCB.
Brakes squeal VERY loud. Even on highway and windows doing braking at 80-70MPH Or low speed braking 30-0 the squeal is very very loud and I can’t get it to go away. Just started happening. Any idea on how to fix this? |

a few hard stops will usually quiet them. but it will be back. i have 11k on my z06 carbons, and at one point for about 1000 miles it was absolutely terrible. but other than that, not a peep. father has about 5k on his, no noise at all, yet. |

OP, try this. Go about 50 mph, brake hard but don't come to a complete stop, let off the brakes before stopping fully. Do that 3-4 times. Then, when you're driving around, make a point NOT to drag the brakes slowly to a stop like you're driving a Camry. Wait and brake later and more firmly. You don't have to panic brake, just wait until it takes a firm pedal to stop the car. Let us know if that fixes your problem.

does bmw give a specific way to burnish ceramics? Chevy does, it's mind boggling. It's something like 40 50-0 hard stops, w/o activating ABS. This will melt away the layer between the pad and rotor and will provide superhuman braking. Lol. I haven't done it, it brakes just fine. But wondering how/if this would help with squealing long term.
Until then, i will enjoy dustless wheels. |

I just traded my 2019 Black Grey M5 Competition because I couldn't handle the squeaky brakes. I will never understand how BMW gets away with not proactively disclosing before purchase rather than being reactive and trying to convince people that it's perfectly normal after the fact.

And also on page 416 of your owners manual. (Porsche made a similar video as well.) High performance brakes WILL SQUEAK if it’s being driven in regular traffic, especially in city driving. Usually can be somewhat remedied by performing some intervals of harder braking from higher speed to lower speed. AKA “Bedding the brakes” (applies especially on new cars with new performance brakes/ pads) BMW does not have an official guideline, but I’ll suggest you to google on procedures from McLarens or Lamborghinis. (trust me they usually squeal REAL Bad on all those 300k+ super cars) As for brauntrader if you’re not ready for it, maybe not get a high performance car?

It is not supposed to happen on the ceramics the same as with steel. And yes everyone loves to quote the Porsche article but that isn't the answer to all "performance" brakes. I've had plenty of brembo systems from MB and audi with 0 squeal...Im not saying the article is accurate, but its not the 100% answer to everything. Otherwise it would be EVERY BBK on the market and its just not. I've also been around plenty of super cars that don't squeal. Some do.
