Piggyback on Lease?

I've got a G05 Racechip I could get reprogrammed for the M5 when I order or I can just sell it.

Anyone run it on a lease? More importantly, anyone turn in a lease having run it? Do they check history of data logs to find evidence of such? Or do they even care about it?

This guy is turning in his leased car and removing a big mod first — a fully built motor that ran alcohol injection. A flash tune is definitely detectable. Piggybacks can be detected if BMW searches the ECU thoroughly for stored data that is not consistent with stock power. But I don’t think such a thorough inspection is routine and is instead done in the event of a major warranty claim.

I lease all my cars and have a complete build on all of them.

You can put piggyback on a leased car, no problem

99% of my customers are on a lease vehicle.
As other has mentioned, it takes a lot of work to find out if your car used to have piggyback.

But since you mentioned it here, BMW now aware that you've tuned your car.
(They do read forum posts).

Well, straight from there "horse's" (CA) mouth: " I mod the hell out of my cars - just use a piggyback and don't flash it and you're fine. . . we would never bother checking for that. . . "

If going in for a routine oil change should one worry about fully removing the piggyback device?

Or is it enough to go to map 0 and disconnect + tuck the obd2 connection?

Depending on your dealership.
Most dealership in LA are pretty cool with mods and they don't care about it on regular maintenance service.
But, if you are paranoid or want to be extra careful, you can always remove the module and uses the bypass plug if you are using RaceChip.
So, you don't need to remove the whole harness and re-install it again later. Bypass plug makes it easier.
Same with Dinan, CarBahn, and some other piggyback tune that are RaceChip based.

If all I do is put it to map 0 (jb4 disabled), disconnect the obd2 plug but leave everything else connected and in place…will the car throw any an usual codes?

I'm running jb4 btw

It would depends on your dealership and if your device is visible or not.
Usually, just regular service, they don't look deep inside the engine bay.

By law, you don't have to worry about it. But to avoid headaches, get to know your service advisor first and then make the decision based on how easygoing they are.

noone here can make this decision for you. nor do any of us know your dealer or your SA. If you're that worried just remove it. thats the only thing that will give you peace of mind it sounds like.

i've left mind fully connected on accident during my last oil change and noone said dick to me. my SA also knows i mod my cars because everytime i take it in there is something new on it. lol he things its great and loves it. I'm also like the only M5 in the area. So everyone in the damn place knows when im bringing it in for service which i am not a huge fan of. Pretty sure its how i ended up with my hood getting scratched year 1, from some kid sitting on the hood taking a selfy.
