Usually not a fan of carwow drag races but this one was rather entertaining. Theiir translations from German are hilariously funny.

No surprises at the result. The gap keeps getting wider.

Curious to see a race against the M5 Competition or M8GC. It would be close.

I really want to see a real M5C compare. The last one they did was bullshit.

I'm quite surprised, I expected the CS to pull away much further than it did here.
These Panameras turbo S' are no joke it seems

Same considering the Porsche is 250 kgs or so heavier.

Cool now lets compare brands around a track

Straight line speed is only so impressive

Sport auto time:
M4 competition xdrive (7:28) MRSP - $82,700 (possible to get MSRP)
992 Carrera S (7:30) MSRP - $123,000 (almost impossible to get MSRP)

OEM factory driver time:
M4 CSL (7:15) MSRP - $139,900 (MSRP was obtained by some)
992 GT3 (6:55) MSRP - $169,700 (good luck..)

So Porsche still wins with the highest trim cars (as expected). but at 100k ADM for a gt3 I would rather get an exotic. Mid trim you can’t beat the value/performance ratio of the G8x platform with anything from Porsche, unless you go 992 GTS for a cool 100k more than a G8x. I get driving feel/steering come into play but I would take a G80 over a carrera S any day and save ~60k (factoring in options and ADM) for equal/better straight line and track performance.

The RWS on the panny Turbo S helps it with track times.
The CS with RWS would have been amazing

I have a feeling the new hybrid M5 with its heavier body will finally come with RWS.

no one looking for value is going to buy a porsche. they command the prices they do because they are that good. and anyone who has seriously driven a 911 would understand why they are so good. not saying the m3 is a bad car but the 911 is on another level

Agreed, and Porsche's option list prices are insane!

A M5 Comp leaves a lot of change for ECU tunes, wheels, suspension etc etc.

And really I don't get the point of a light weight M5 that still weighs over 1. 8 ton. Hardly a track toy is it. Going to be harder on the road than an M5 Comp.

I reckon if getting a 5er a M550i is the go. Save the coin and then buy a caterham for the track or alike lol

I'd like them to add a normal run of the mill family suv into the mix just so we can appreciate how fast these cars actually aren't you don't really get an appreciate if their speed in these drag races as there is nothing "normal" to compare to.

We probably forget that a lot of cars on sale even today don't manage to get into single figures for 0-60!

This is where my brain goes. I want a Lotus on the track, not a 1.8 ton AWD 4dr family sedan. Something that will get more than 10 laps out of its front tyres!

The M3 is impressive but why compare an xdrive to a rwd 911s?
