Most cost-effective way to swap 706Ms for 789Ms.
Hey everyone. I live in the UK and am about to buy an LCI F90 M5C. I found the perfect one, but the only issue is that it has the cast 706M wheels instead of the forged 789M, and that's a dealbreaker for me. I think I'm going to buy it anyway, as the rest of the spec is perfect, but I was wondering what the most cost effective way of swapping the alloys is. I've seen a bunch of threads on here with people trying to sell their wheels but I'm guessing that's not really a goer. Would you buy and sell them on Ebay? Or sell on Ebay and buy directly from BMW? Or maybe there's an alloy shop or tuner that can get that sorted. Would appreciate some pointers from anyone who has done this before.

try talking to the dealer to swap or a discount , it worked for a friend. buying and selling online will save you some cash, just found a 1200 miles set in Germany for 3700 euro with the TPMS. on leebman this set is about 4800 euro New . leebman is always cheaper than BMW . you have to add the shipping and maybe taxes as you guys are not part of the EU anymore. i tried to give an estimated price that you can compare with your dealers price.

Are the 706M's all black? If so, give me a shout - it might be difficult to sort out because of tyre types, mileage, etc., but I bought an LCI F90 M5C from Berry Chiswick (I'm in London NW7) in January, from stock, and would have chosen the black 706M's rather than the black/silver 789M's on the car, if I'd been able to choose my perfect spec. I've done 400 miles since new and the car has Pirelli tyres, which would be my preference, but not an issue.
Could be an easy win/win! David |

Thanks guys. I ended up doing what you suggested - asked the dealer to tell me how much it would cost to have them replaced, and then knock that off the price.. So later on in the day I got an email from the sales person to call him and when I called he said that they've got another M5 with the ones I wanted, and they'd just swap them over without anyone knowing for £500. Perfect.. This way it's all straight from the dealer.
And that would have been perfect David - the original ones were indeed black. What's your spec - intrigued by how it would look with the black wheels. Mine is Marina Bay Blue and it looked a bit intense with the black wheels in the dealer photos. |

Black on black! I wanted the car stealthy and if I was able to spec the car exactly how I wanted would have chosen the 810M's with black callipers (so that it wasn't completely black and maybe look like I was trying too hard to be stealthy), but seeing as I had to take the red callipers I'd gladly swap the 789M's for black 706M's. First world problems!
MBB is beautiful, I think all wheel options look great with it. |

David, Why don't you just get the 789Ms sprayed in gloss black. Iv seen a few and they look good. I will have a set of 706Ms in gloss black in the garage soon as I have a set of aftermarket 21s on the way if you want to chat. Should have been on last week but one of the wheels has been lost in transit! Lol......

Good luck with the missing 21 - likely sitting in a courier depot somewhere - 3 out of 4 was a decent effort Quote:

Test drive Comp, swap rims in back parking lot, return demo car and say "no, not fast enough for me, going to MB." They will be so fluster by that comment that they will not notice the rims until you are long gone. Use fake ID of course. Tell them you identify with "Being a jerk" so they can't complain to the authorities after the fact.

Yes I might do as I have no space for these and never change to winter tires here in the south of England as we have a few days of snow a year and I just don't drive those days. Only thought at the back of my mind is if I sell the car to a dealer down the line in say 2 - 3 years they are likely to insist on OEM wheels. But yes likely to sell them to part fund the new ones anyway and worry about that later down the line. I was supposed to have these a couple of weeks ago now so ping me a private message and we can chat possible numbers, timings and should we do a deal. Thanks

Complete opposite for me. I wanted the 706M wheels for my black 21 M5C, but settled for 789M wheels because everything else was what I wanted.
What would be awesome is if someone in the Houston area wanted the same as the original poster [789M wheels] and was willing to do a trade for 706M wheels. |

Love that there's as many people wanting the 706Ms as the 789Ms. Just shows that it's each to their own.
So the car got delivered today and is epic. Just another level in terms of how it feels on the road compared to anything else in the same class. Annoyingly I didn't pick up that it wasn't just the wheels that were black. It looks like there was some sort of black pack applied - the grill is black, the gills on the side are black, the wingmirrors are black, and the outer exhausts are black. I managed to get the wheels changed but didn't realise I should have asked for those to be swapped over too. Any chance that David (or anyone else in the UK) you happen to have the chrome bits and want to swap? Especially the front grill. If not I might have to go down the M Performance carbon route to have everything at least match the roof. |

It's absolutely epic. And I realised I was being a donut - the reason it's all black is because the LCI ones are all black. I was comparing it with one that's down the street which has all the aluminium trim, but that's the pre-facelift one, not a different option package. The black is growing on me
