So I moved pin 5 on both to pin 4. And that resolved it.

So only one thing I don't have is the inner red lights don't react to brake pedal but that is the same behaviour as the LCI I believe.

I didn't have to do any coding, no errors, reverse lights work, fog light works; welcome lights work.

Cheers,
Neil.
That's not a proper way for them to work, all 4 have to light up upon braking. You need to get lights coded for them to work properly.

The outers work because they're plug and play. The inners is why the wiring and coding is required. GL.

Was wondering any OEM LCI taillights "retrofit wiring harness" available for pre-LCI models in North America at this point?…folks from one of performance shops out there mentioned it's available…and is considered an OEM part.

This would be the harness that comes with the Chinese knockoffs. They are plug and play and include a harness that effectively re-pins and jumps the out to inner and require no coding.

According to this vendor, they're selling OEM LCI taillights w/ necessary associated parts (which include retrofit wiring harness). If the "retrofit wiring harness" part(s) will work with OEM LCI taillights assemblies, it could avoid re-pin the wire connectors and assist many DIYers out there.

Interesting. If it adds expense, repinning and running the jump is easy enough. If this avoids coding, that's another story.

I pinged them for a price and to define what "Coding and Activation" means as part of the list of what you get.

So I made a jump cable to the inner brake light from the the outer brake light. Works. No coding required on my car.

Neil.

So when you step on your brakes the inner lights light up with the outer?

I've been reading through this DIY. I ordered Euro ones from Abdul, and I have the lights installed (pending the pins/new wire since those haven't arrived yet). In the mean time I'm trying to sort out the coding.
I saw this posted earlier, but running into some issues:
Quote:
1) Update software to 03-2021
2) Add HELC to HO-WORT
3) Code BDC module
4) Make some changes manually (bimmercode can do this too):

BL_L_CCM: ccm_346 [01 5A]
BL_L_IS_LED: nicht_aktiv, default [00]
BL_L_MIN_PWM: 5% [05]
BL_L_WARMUEBERWACHUNG: nicht_aktiv [00]
BL_R_CCM: ccm_345 [01 59]
BL_R_IS_LED: nicht_aktiv, default [00]
BL_R_MIN_PWM: 5% [05]
BL_R_WARMUEBERWACHUNG: nicht_aktiv [00]
For the software update, the car says it's already up to date. I was able to get HELC written. But when I read BDC_BODY2 I don't see any of the other listed parameters to edit. Not sure if I'm missing some other step or it's something completely different. I'm using Esys since bimmercode said it couldn't even ready the BDC. For reference the car is a 2020 and originally CAD. Was wondering if anyone else ran into similar issues?

Also is there a cheat sheet for F90s? I'm not sure what the commonly coded features are on this car, or even what is available overall, but the cheat sheets I've found so far have not been helpful, since most I can't find (again).

I know a few people who successfully did their own coding. I used Vic. I do know that there is not a one size fits all coding menu for these. Some of the tweaks vary from car to car depending on MY and software version. I suggest you get it all wired, jumped and pinned correctly and then start messing around with coding through trial and error. Vic did my coding before the install and although it was 90% functional, I did need him to go back in to tweak as just the inners were lighting up when braking.

Not helpful. More info. What car what lights etc. As it stands this is very vague.

We provide the coding to activate LCI taillight to customers that are in the same area as us, the LCI Taillight does not come precoded as the coding part is for your Car's DME to recognise LCI Taillight and to activate it to work properly.

I received a reply message via FB Messenger from this vendor this morning…was informed the "so-called" OEM retrofit wire harness (or harnesses) cannot be sold separately and it must be sold as a kit at $5800RM (apx. $1371.00 USD).

2 additional wires to the BDC

Please note, that this refers to the EURO spec rear lights on a European car, where you also need to run 2 additional wires to the BDC and re-pin the inner connector.

What I did in terms of coding:
1. Update car to latest I-Step 21-03
2. Perform LCI Rear Light retrofit measures within ISTA (this will still throw a break-light error)
3. In BDC code:
  • BL_L_Warmueberwachung & BL_R_Warmueberwachung to "nicht_aktiv"
  • BL_L_CCM & BL_R_CCM to "off"

Here you go, the rear lights work w/o error
Hello.Do you have picture for these 2 additional wires to the BDC.
I did not get the point 2 about ISTA.
Thanks for above sharing information.

Shout out to Joe for your help and advice. Was able to get with Vick and he sorted out the couple of minor issues I was having. Everything is working as it should and I couldn't be happier.

Excellent, nothing like that feeling when you know everything is right.

Just to follow-up, I pinged these guys with questions and it's like pulling teeth. They still have not given me a price. Here is the exchange, vague on what the harness does, they say still needs re-pinning and coding:

Can you tell me what the price is for this kit and when you say "Coding for Activation" do you provide coding or are these pre-coded and plug and play? 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐁𝐌𝐖 𝐆𝟑𝟎 𝟓 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐋𝐂𝐈 𝐓𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭

Hello Joe, so sorry for the late reply as we were receiving too many messages regarding the LCI conversion 🙏 one of my partner had open your message and I did not see that there was notification of unread messages

We provide the coding to activate LCI taillight to customers that are in the same area as us, the LCI Taillight does not come precoded as the coding part is for your Car's DME to recognise LCI Taillight and to activate it to work properly.

Thanks. So your wiring harness avoids re-pinning and has a jump wire? Price?

Let me double confirm with you on this as my installer is busy right now. For the price it's 5800MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) as we are based in Malaysia.

To double confirm with you, the wire connector still has to be re-pin

Supplier said that the retrofit wiring harness is just another two extra wires that's all as pre LCI only has only one wire

It isn't the same as 1:1 China Plug & Play LCI Taillight, as China's 1:1 doesn't need coding to activate the taillights together and there's no need to repin or jump wire.

Just buy oem and repin. It's stupid easy and cheaper. I paid less than $1000 from dealer. Unless you're buying euro lights

Agreed, I was just curious what this seller was actually offering so I hit them with some Q&A, which I still don't really have any answers. I was intrigued by the wiring harness comment as were others and wondered if someone developed a harness that avoided re-pinning and coding for LCI's. Neither seem to be the case.
