Got in the car today and noticed these little cracks along one side of my steering wheel, any idea to what caused this and or a possible fix.

Keeping your wheel clean and moist is the only way to prevent this. Nothing to do now. The leather has now failed I would think.

That's what I figured. Carbon fiber steering wheel it is then 😂

I had this happen to my f10, it looked identical, however it was from my wedding ring that accidentally dragged against the wheel when I was making a u turn.

That leather has been beat to hell, and was not taken care of. CF or alcantara wheel is a good choice.

Maybe it could be sanded and refinished. Or you can send you wheel out to be rewrapped. A few places specialize in steering wheel leather wrapping.

I've seen this before as well. Also a ring dragging across it. Audi has a TSB for it: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...66947-6903.pdf

Looks like user damage from a ring or watch.

I'm also noticing some excessive wear on your wheel on the leather portions of the spoke at 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock. Do you put oils, lotions, or sunscreen on your hands?

Weird part is that I really don't. I also don't wear any rings or watches. Really strange the whole thing happened overnight. The day before it was perfectly fine.

Anyone else have access to the car? Valet driver? Dealership people? Spouse?

Also could have been caused when you got out or in the car, if you have a belt that snagged on it, or rivet in jeans ? It would be really odd for leather to just crack, especially in that pattern. Def looks like something rubbed on it, and the friction caused that issue.

Buy an alcantara steering wheel, solves that. I just added a CS wheel to mine, and love it.

Really, for CS? or aftermarket?

I ordered CS OEM wheel off of IND and had it with in a few days.

I went with an aftermarket one with a mix of alcantara and carbon fiber.

I think it's from your hip/side when you got into or out of the car. Definitely scraped the wheel and damaged the leather. Need a new steering wheel

My guess is that something hard, maybe a phone or something similar, when you enter or exit the car, it rubbed again the steering wheel
