New Fuel

Shell Australia have just introduced 100RON fuel. Cant wait to try it. Service guy said OK to use.

It does, however include 5% ethanol.

I will try it in my next fill and see how things go over the coming weeks.

Sounds very exciting.

Any comments from anyone?

The RON level is raised because of the ethanol and burning ethanol is claimed to be cleaner.

Hey David, I am very interested in hearing your experience. I will try and hunt it down myself, though Shell tends to try stuff out in the Eastern States first.

Yes, the entire fuel is supposed to be a slower burning fuel, thus offering greater power to the engine.

Well I am looking forward to it.

Jamie, hop on to the Shell Australia web site and check out if you have a servo that provides 100RON

Thanks David, just as I thought, Eastern States only at the moment. Shell did this with Optimax 98 originally, BP and Mobil were way ahead of Shell in offering 98 RON to other markets.

I went to one of the shell/coles express servos and they didnt have it yet. the attendant was surprised that they didnt have it after being told that they were going to have it.

Iam calling head office tomorrow to find out when its happening. In the meantime my petrol guage shows my fuel level at 3/4.

I must be the only person in the world who WANTS to use his current tankful of petrol ASAP so I can refuel with Optimax EXTREME!!!!

Maniac!!!

LOL - and I bet you want it as empty as possible to reduce the amount of fuel mixing and increase the overall octane rating.

Just think of the dolphins you are killing with your wreckless envrionmental vandalism...

Bloody Australians

Why cant we get that here

We are all excited because we are getting 95 in January
But we are are 5,500 feet above sea level here, so dont need as much octane in natrually aspirated cars

Quite a few good ones around here

People that grow up at this altitude apparently have a greater capacity to take in oxygen into the blood.

It's amazing how people are conditioned to believe adding ethanol to gasoline is better for the environment. What people don't know is that it takes more fossil fuels to create the ethanol to begin with. Fossil fuels are needed to: create the genetically engineered seeds, plant the seeds, used to make the fertilizer, apply the fertilizer, harvest the corn, proccess the corn into ethanol.

Don't go there!

This is a huge political debate here because what you said is exactly what the majority of sane people think in this country. However we have a Prime Minister doing sweetheart deals with the cane sugar growers because of some family connection. He is pushing for legislation for 10% ethanol mix.

You know marketers, they will press any perceived advantage.

for my selfish reasons, i dont care about the ethanol/environment issue that relates to my car. i do care about the environment BUT if i can put 100RON fuel in my car and it responds appropriately, then i dont care too much as to what ingredients are in the fuel.

the ethanol shell uses is refined from by products of sugar and wheat here in australia.

do not misunderstand me. i am NOT flaming you or arguing with you. i just want my 100RON petrol.

The beer companies are also selling their ethanol from the brewing process to the gas companies but it's not even close to as much ethanol as they need. Solution... Drink more beer :rocks:

Here in Canada, the best we can do is 94 Octane as far as I know... and it has up to 10% ethanol.

Anyone know if any other companiess up here in the Great White North will be bringing the good stuff?

Is that 94RON or is it in fact 94PON? 94PON is the same as 98RON.
