No issues downshifting either. After test driving mine and learning it wasn't a DCT box I was shocked.

That being said, this conversation of "BMW (and M) isn't what it once was blah blah" is hilarious. Half of the people saying this stuff aren't buying the car brand new to begin with. The other half are complaining about the car not being as special as it should be. If BMW has to use the same motor for 2 generations of the M5 (f10 into F90) to make sure that the motor works properly then so be it. Look at every other motor they've made specifically to a chassis in the last 10 years.

-The E46 had horrendous motor problems from VANOS to rod bearings. Ask me how I know.
-The E60 motor is an abomination in terms of reliability and upkeep. New VANOS solenoids are close to $3,000 each right now.
-The E9x M3 motor is a derivative of the S85 which was in production for 3 years before it became the S65.

I could care less if my M car has a one-off motor, as long as it performs (which it does) and as long as I won't be losing sleep over my motor blowing up (which I think they're at with these developed S63s). At the end of the day, the product we're getting today is a much better all around car than those of years past.

We aren't in a scenario where the cars are losing in a straight line to AMG or RS cars, and we still get to keep our handling ability that M is known for. I struggle to understand how people can find a way to complain. End rant.
agree on most except the smoothness of the zf8at vs dct. my dct is extremely smooth and I think its the brightest spot in the f10 drivetrain. the torque converter alone does not make for a smooth shift but also the calibration. I absolutely despise the zf8at in my e70.

I will reserve final judgement when I drive the F90 but I dont expect an improvement over the dct.

I can't speak to the smoothness of the e70 as I haven't had enough seat time to compare. But DCT in the F80 vs zf8 in my F85 was night and day. That being said it shouldn't be a surprise in improvement from e70 to f85. Same story as SMG2 in the E46 M3 to SMG3 in the e60 M5, almost night and day improvement as generations progressed.

I never drove a zf8 that i liked. that said I haven't drove the one in the f85. i could never get that mechanical feel including gear backlash when decelerating with the ZFAT in manual mode.

but I'm the guy who still misses turbo lag and other oddities in cars. love the SCT in the aventedor. This month's Roundell asserts that you no longer need to use the paddles as the f90 zf8 will always be in the right gear so you can focus on getting the perfect lap speed. Fine if you drive on a track to get to work. I guess I just bemoan less involvement and refinement to the level of being bland.

I know what you mean 10000%. I still have my 6mt e46 M3 in the garage for that reason- I do have a soft spot for the involvement. That being said I think that the primary market for these cars are drivers that prioritize what the car does on paper and the comfort at the same degree. The F10 M5 being offered in manual fell on it's face. The community moaned and groaned, but at the end of the day the guys/gals cutting the checks went for DCT at the dealer. The second hand market can kick and scream all it wants but the sad reality is the person buying the M5 brand new is not always a driving fanatic.

the rear wheels are 10.5 on the f80 vs 10 on the f10, so even though the tires are narrower they will probably look wider on 10.5 wheels.

Any idea why there's a crossover pipe between the intercoolers that the F10 M5 didn't have? Whether he's right or not I can't be sure, but RK is already designing an intake for the F90 and he said it's to equalize boost between the two turbos since it's now MAFless vs before where the F10 had dual MAFs. My question is...would this be beneficial to use on other MAFless engines like the S63 used in the X5M/X6M? Just a though.

i just picked up the f90 and realized its not the DCT.. i was assuming it would be like my F85 which i love. In any case if it shifts quicker overall great, however ill still miss the DCT feel.. i'm not used to having to hold the brake all the time either..

Easy fix, press Auto Hold button by the parking break

It was supposed to behave the same (creep on demand instead of automatic) but that was changed for some reason on production F90.

Pre-production cars didn't creep automatically. In fact, if you grab your owner's manual, look up Low-Speed Assistant. For whatever reason, it doesn't disengage even if you follow all the steps as described.

i knew i should have taken time to sit with the bmw genius when taking delivery, instead i was in/out of dealership in less than 15 minutes. Also, taking some time to get used to of not pushing the start/stop twice to fully turn the car off.. its nice that it completely shuts off after opening door once engine is shut off.. however if door is already open and you started car and then shut the engine, i take it after specific idle time it will shut itself off unless you lock it first or hold the volume button down.. i'll go read that technical training manual now

Those are small things that you will adjust and get used to it.
Some sacrifices needs to be made.
I am biggest MT freak and got into Automatic
That took a while and I still miss it.
The G80 is coming dough

Just turn on Auto-H which effectively disables the creep and holds you on hills, etc.

BMW M5 Comp F90 Review

Hello dear BMW Fans and enthusiasts,
my name is Tseno, from Bulgaria and just like all of you I am a BMW addict! I own a 2019 BMW x4 m40i with OPF/PPF tuned with bootmod3 Stage 1 and some maxton design goodies and since I got it I wanted to start a youtube channel about my big passion for cars, so I did one. Here is my perspective of the BMW m5 F90 competiton which belongs to a very good friend of mine, I hope you like it and will really appreciate any comments , opinios and tips about the car, the video and anything else you can think of! Thank you and to many many more cool threads in the future!
Best regards!
